Derrick Gordon (UMASS) First Openly Gay Div 1 Basketball Player

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I doubt he's the first... Have you seen some of these females in this tournament ?

Hopefully these gay stories end up quit being stories... Cause there's not much more that can be said on it after Collins and Sam...

My buddy is on the Practice Squad for a local college basketball team, and there's an openly gay player on that team he may not be public about it but he has admitted it to the entire team. I guess this is technically the first to be public about it?

Well, that's pretty shitty of your friend first to tell you, and then you to post about it. Should honestly be deleted unless he really doesn't care.

Very un cool to out someone, he may be out to his team but that doesn't mean he is out to the world, or even his family.

Most people know my 19 year old son is gay. This shit his biological mother put him through was horrible but nothing compared to the stories I hear from his gay friends. I still remember the night my son came in asking if a kid could come live with us, his mom had just told him she would prefer he would be dead than gay. I shit you not.

Bottom line is keep in your own lane.

I'm glad that athletes are feeling comfortable enough and empowered enough to come forward. With that said I agree with DiceK PipEwing that we don't need to stop the presses and do a 30 For 30 every time someone comes out. Let's not cast these guys into the spotlight until the world resents them like we did with Tebow for example. Hopefully more come forward and this slowly becomes an "Oh that's great, but can he space the floor?"

that's nice if these guys feel comfortable about it but to be honest, who cares? If people dont think it should matter if they're gay or not then why declare you're gay? go play basketball or football and be gay, don't make a big deal about it going to the media so they can try to shove acceptance down everyone's throats. I don't even see how this is news worthy?

You can't be serious. Change can't occur if everyone keeps it a secret, no one talks about it.

Gordon specifically made note of Jason Collins coming out, and how it inspired him. Example #1 of why it needs to be a big deal right now. Gay people need to know they're going to be accepted, people will be comfortable with them, etc..

Thinking everything will be butterflies and rainbows from here on out is silly..

Heard the guy was really having trouble straightening up his locker in the lockerroom. Apparently his teammates aren't anal, but felt he was pretty submissive and wouldn't take control of the situation. Not flamming, just what I've heard..
