I don't think Brissett is very good at all and I don't think the Browns will make the playoffs with him starting the whole season, but for a variety of reasons I think he'll be the starter the entire time Watson is out.

I think he’s good enough to win 7 or 8 games with this roster, but I doubt he leads the team to the playoffs if Watson is out the entire year.

I think what he provides is basic competence. He’s not going to turn the ball over a lot. High floor, low ceiling guy. Our win total will come down to how good the defense is.

Kirk Cousins is, in my opinion, the new Dalton Line. Other average QBs include current Matt Ryan, Ryan Tannehill, Derek Carr, and Jalen Hurts.
I think that's fair.

I have 12 guys in the "top group" (in no order):

Kyler
Dak
Rodgers
Stafford
Brady
Herbert
Mahomes
Russell Wilson
Josh Allen
Deshaun Watson
Joe Burrow
Lamar Jackson

I have about 13 in the bottom group, in no order:

Tua
Daniel Jones
Trey Lance
Zach Wilson
Davis Mills
Kenny Pickett
Carson Wentz
Drew Lock
Jameis
Goff
Fields
Baker
Mariota

That leaves the "average" group at:

Matt Ryan
Trevor Lawrence
Carr
Mac Jones
Cousins
Tannehill
Jalen Hurts

Obviously you can nitpick those lists all you want--especially with the young, unproven guys. I agree with the premise though--put any of those "average" guys on the Browns for 2022, and we're a more dangerous team than we were last year.

The thing people have to understand though--the AFC got a lot better. You can't just say we finished 8-9, we could be better, so playoffs. That doesn't take into account the other teams.

The AFC is going to be an absolute dogfight this year.

I didn’t include any of last year’s rookies simply because they were mostly terrible. Mac Jones was the best of the bunch and he was borderline average last year.

I would expect Jones and Lawrence to end up in the average category at least this year. It’s just a shame that Jones has no one to throw to and Lawrence plays for the Jags, who could absolutely ruin him, Andrew Luck style.

I wonder if the Browns organization thinks it would be a slap in the face to Brissett - who by all accounts is a consummate professional and beloved by his teammates - and even potentially hurt the locker room if they more or less yanked the rug out of from him after basically having him go through OTAs, minicamp and most of training camp as the defacto starter.

I get that it's a business and you want the most talented people in the most important spots, but there's a human element to this that I think a lot of us, especially me at times, tend to ignore.

Combine that with Jimmy coming off shoulder surgery and no one totally knowing where he's at physically, I think the Browns would ultimately pass on bringing him in.

Possibly......but if anything we have heard about Jimmy G is remotely true, it sounds like he's a guy people line up to play for too.

Jimmy is a far better QB than Jacoby, so I'm sure guys would get over it. Assuming his shoulder is near 100%, I would be disappointed if that wasn't the counter to Watson possibly being gone for the year.

We know our front office values analytical measures, especially for QB play.....and Jimmy grades out better there than he does among armchair QB experts. He's not a world beater but with our offensive personnel, he'd be better than Baker was, which would be good enough for now.

Word out of Niners camp is that Jimmy looks sharp but doesn't have great endurance for throwing.

I appreciate the list, its tough to disagree with it.

In Mayfield's 2021 season he still threw a better td to attempt ratio than those guys

Average separation measures time between the WR/TE and the defender at the time of catch; the browns don't rank in the top 50 for 21' season

Nick Chubb eh? top 19th for % of 8+defenders in the box, combine that with the number of sacks & # of blitzes and I think why the hell are they passing so much?

The defenses knew how bad the offensive line was for the Browns and exploited it. Fans wanna blame Mayfield, but they couldn't be more wrong.

Brissett is serviceable, but he's not going to bring any goods; could he lead the browns to .500 in his limited stretch? yes. watson is needed even for 6 games

Mayfield at 40m/season is a tough call and i understand u have to look at all options, but to just poo poo Mayfield for his 21 season is wrong.

Listen I know old dudes have a penchant for hanging dong in locker rooms any chance they can get, but in what world are old guys taking a quick shvitz after a couple of laps around a skating rink?
Cleveland Skating Club was very popular for tennis with the old dudes.

First time I pissed at that trough, my face was right at dong level. I just remember looking up and seeing schlong after schlong lined up. Those things looked like they were five times the size of mine. No courtesy warning from dad to stare straight ahead.

For years after, it was a mad scramble for mini urinals whenever I could find them. I was successful for the most part too.

Then… the Cleveland Skating Club. Those old guys would read the Wall Street Journal and dry their old, wrinkly scrotums off in that locker room humidity, proud as can be. It was terrifying to think those guys with their gigantic bird nest bushes and old man junk might catch a glimpse of my pre-pubescent to adolescent schlongery. I was the only jackass in the entire joint with a towel wrapped around me. In and out of that place.

This origin story explains so much

This is how you create leverage on this punishment
over simply giving him a salary in 2022.

If the NFL pushes for a fine, I understand. Watson got paid to sit last year. If he is suspended for the season without a fine, his pocket book doesn't see a difference. The NFL needs to be as creative as Watson's representatives to prevent his camp suing the NFL.

At least, that's the intention. Awful that the NFL isn't bothering to punish the Texans. This was all on their watch using their NDSAs.

Houston is immune from punishment. The Astros cheated and faced no punishment. Now the Texans get away with shit. The Rockets (and Bill Fitch) tanked so blatantly that Stern instituted the lottery.
