Deshaun Watson: Please Go Away

I get that I just don’t really get how people are placing this all on haslam

Your GM wanted a guy, he didn’t want the job, and the owner stepped up and personally wrote a check that made it happen

I hate Haslam and think he’s a shit owner, but to me that’s actually being a good owner. He went above and beyond to get the guy identified

It would be vastly different if Haslam was all over Watson and the rest of the decision makers were tepid about it
Sure but 13 other NFL teams wanted Watson(I forget the number). He said no to the Browns, we should have walked then... He never comes here if it were not for that contract which IMO, led to all the cuddling that went on over the years. Entire situation is a mess...Again, I always blame Jimmy, I blame him for Hue, Dorsey, Freddie, OBJ etc... To @CBBI & @adam81king
point there is a reason why they are all coming back...

How many coaches and Quarterbacks that he hired was this idiot still paying after they left Cleveland?

Is he still paying Butch Davis? Mark Rypien?

Haslam can't help himself from making disastrous player personnel decisions, particularly in the direction of athletes who have already made it perfectly clear they do not want to play for the Cleveland Browns. If there's a certain path to crushing futility he will leave no stone unturned in order to get there.

Look at the OBJ fiasco. The 2019 draft included Deebo, AJ Brown, Terry McLaurin and DK Metcalf. Instead Haslam got to play starfucker with OBJ, thus wrecking team chemistry. He can't help himself.

Haslam, Watson and OBJ are all cut from the same cloth. Their cynicism and lack of humanity made them perfect bedfellows.

Did I watch the same clip? What about that says that Haslam is the biggest reason Watson was a brown? Lloyd said, twice, Andrew Berry was on board first
People hear what they want.

At the end when he said he guesses that Haslam forced Berry's hand to drag the deal across the finish line, that's what people are hearing... and blaming Haslam.

Did I just see bedfellows?

I gotta start using that one more... Solid entry...

Haslem’s problem is he has too much Jerry Jones in him. Never go full Jerry Jones but even a partial JJ is bad. In fact Jones recently has throttled back somewhat which is why he passed on Johnny Football and Haslem didn’t.

Dan started out way too strong and while his passion for the team and desire to succeed was always admirable and he put his money where his mouth was (and is) he had several questionable judgement calls and public statements. Over the years he’s learned that being a sports owner is harder than it looks and you have to trust your people (who better be good). Now Dan can be the team’s #1 fan and let his smart hires do their jobs.

Hopefully Jimmy learns from his mistakes also and does better. I don’t think he’s a horrible owner (we’ve had Modell and Stepien here) and I think he wants to win and will spend money but he has to learn when NOT to step in also — which is very hard for any owner.

You don’t want to be the Mat Ishbia of the NFL.

Most =/= all.

From accounts, AB presented an idea that Haslam agreed to. The idea was rebuffed and they were told no. Haslam didn't want to lose and rammed it through. I didn't see AB asked Haslam to step up further, I read Haslam didn't want to be told no. I believe that to be the case because AB wasn't fired.

The bigger issue than who ended up making the decision to bring Watson in is the fact that Stefanski seemingly believed - presumably after talking to Watson - that he wouldn’t really have to change his offense and that Watson would simply run the existing offense at a higher level than Baker ran it.

Rypien joined ISIS I think.

And yes, Haslam is still paying him.

I just can’t understand placing basically any blame on Haslam

  • GM identifies player who he thinks will make the franchise a contender
  • Player doesn’t want to play for franchise for a myriad of reasons
  • Owner opens his checkbook in a way no other owner in the nfl would to land the player
If Watson was a top 5 QB right now people would be praising Haslam for being willing to go above and beyond and put so much on the line for his GM

why isn’t this the case? Because the player identified was the wrong player. And whose responsibility is it to know who the right player is? The GM or the owner

To me it’s some big time mental gymnastics to place even some of the blame on Haslam

People just love to hate millionaires/billionaires.

Every owner of an NFL franchise is involved with what’s going on. It’s silly to think otherwise. If anything i’m glad we have an owner who is consistently willing to spend, and invest.

Very true, rich people get hated on. If I was a billionaire NFL owner I sure as heck would be involved with roster moves.
