Deshaun Watson: Third Highest Paid QB in the AFC North (OUT for 2023)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

I understand he’s looked bad, I just find it interesting how quickly people want to assume he can no longer be a good QB after just 8 games back. The funny thing is he generally hasn’t played great in that stretch and neither has the defense (aside from the last two games) and the Browns are still 4-4 in that stretch. Sure, a lot can be assessed to Chubb, but still interesting nonetheless.

My point is, he was unlikely to ever look good last year. He missed a ton of practice time with the suspension, he was off the field for over a 1.5 years, and the Browns had to change offenses mid-season. Even if he started the season last year, it was going to take him at least several games to find any type of a rhythm.

Who knows, he could absolutely be cooked. I’m not ruling out that possibility. I also don’t think writing him off as of now makes any sense either given the circumstances. He’s probably going to be more comfortable in an offense where he’s throwing the ball more. He also might still be catching back up to the speed of the game at this point.

Ultimately I just want to see all these people eat crow that are already writing him off. He just needs to delete all his social media apps and avoid sports media until the season is over.

He got blasted when people were getting blocked on Twitter for doing just that.

Ps the int to open the game was a tipped ball

It was an inaccurate throw. It still should have been caught, but it was not a good throw.

I think it's safe to say that the odds of that ball ending up as an interception go down dramatically if Watson is simply more accurate with the ball - unless you believe Bryant ran the wrong route and Watson put the ball where he thought Bryant was supposed to be.

But all that said, Bryant still did get two hands on it and it's a play that should be made.

No, it was tipped. It wasn't inaccurate. It was deflected by a defender at the line

Do you have a definitive angle? I've watched it a bunch of times and I genuinely can't say for sure that 98 tipped it or not. He jumped for it, but it looks like he whiffed to me.

I could be wrong though.

Look at the video David referenced. That clearly shows that Leal got a finger on it changing the trajectory. Without that it probably would have been on target.

Video is long but good watch. Skip to 9:30

I appreciate you share this, but I dunno... I watched it too and I'm not convinced it's actually tipped :chuckle:

Maybe it was though.

9:30 second mark of the video I posted, the nose of the football changes angle as it gets tipped by (I Believe) 98 at the line

I don’t see any possibility that the angle that dude draws the line shows the change in direction that he assumes it would have went.
His yellow lines aren't accurate but his point is correct. The ball was tipped and it probably put it a foot from where it would have gone if not tipped by Leal.
