Deshaun Watson: Third Highest Paid QB in the AFC North

If it was under an activity not covered, does the team slow play the investigation during the season? If Deshaun is out all of '25 the insurance policy covers the salary as the credit towards the cap in '26 and the cap hit is pushed out until '26/'27. If he is cut now due to breaking a contractual clause all that dead cap from the restructures moves up to '25 and '26?

Ok so he re-ruptured it. Wild. From the web:
Re rupture chance…What are the chances of re-rupturing an Achilles tendon?

The chance of re-rupturing an Achilles tendon depends on the treatment method, but is generally low:

  • Surgical treatment
The re-rupture rate is around 1.5–5.6%. However, surgery can lead to complications like wound infections and sural nerve damage.

I first dismissed this as too optimistic that he might have done this outside of guidelines, but I am coming around. Not yet at “probably” but possibly.

Why would this not be disclosed the moment that it happened?!? If I am rehabbing as per guidelines, I am immediately calling my employer if pain occurs.

Instead, Deshaun tells them during an exit interview examination.

There’s smoke here. He might be able to lie his way out of it, but maybe not. Also, wouldn’t a rerupture be like incredibly painful? Did it happen a day before the Browns found out? Can the Browns ask for phone geolocation data or credit card receipts for the alibi? I bet the insurance company would also like to know.

This might not be over, but most probable case is now next season missed and that’s a hefty cap credit for 2026. I couldn’t find much on Achilles rerupturing return rates of pro athletes. If you are a pro football player, you might be worried about a THIRD one, and you are probably already worried about long-term (post-football) Achilles issues.

We also get another roster spot now too, yes? Due to PUP designation maybe?

The upside here of a voided contract is wild. That’s some momentum shifting shit for sure. This whole story is wild.

If...

If this were to come to pass...

You'd be looking at about an $80 million cap hit this season to cover what's been paid out but not accounted for on the cap. That's a $7ish million difference from his current cap number. There would be no $44 million credit in '26 because that's insurance for the '25 salary that would no longer be guaranteed and paid.

However, in lieu of the $44 million credit, you're now free and clear of all remaining money for '26 and beyond. That's roughly $92 million over those two years.

It would a fitting dumbest possible end to the dumbest possible contract in NFL history. I, for one, hope it happens.

Poor Deshaun probably hasn’t had a good orgasm in years.

Do you think he hires elite ladies of the evening to stage fake no-consent scenarios?

Interestingly, I think his whole legal/moral issues stem from an untamed/unsatisfied kink than him being a depraved monster. Had he hired women to address that, instead of massage therapists, we likely wouldn't be here.

Exactly.

The fact the Browns are gonna get out from under the remaing coins on this contract is just brilliant...

Maybe Haslam paid the surgeon to sabotage the tendon during surgery!
Honestly, Watson should legitimately be concerned about something weird happening to him. Whether it's his character, his play or his contract, there are a lot of people who have beef with him.

If he wants to hire some extra security to make sure nothing happens, might I recommend Jeffrey Epstein's prison guards?

Is this biggest contract albatross in Cleveland sports history? Gotta be at this point.
Honestly not really. Berrys cap magic has made it not that large of a cap hit. We haven’t had to get rid of anyone to fit his deal. I don’t remember us losing out on any free agents because we didn’t have enough money. There’s probably worse cavs contracts since you can’t rework those deals.
