Here’s the problem with Waiters: His natural style works best as the centerpiece of an offense, but he’s nowhere near good enough to be a centerpiece of an offense.

Yes, Waiters averaged 21.2 points, shooting 45.7 percent from the field and 35.2 percent on 3-pointers, and 4.2 assists per game while starting Cleveland’s final 15 games last season. And yes, the Cavaliers went a pretty-good-for-them 7-8 while outscoring opponents by 30 points.

But the more you watch Waiters, those numbers seem unsustainable over a larger sample. He obviously plays better when his team’s strategy is geared toward him, but that’s true of everyone in the league. Few players justify that treatment, though, and Waiters isn’t one of them.

Said it better than I could

The waiters effect of 15 min 1 for 6 shooting and getting blown the fuk out lol

I will still be rooting for Dion. Guy played with heart and swagger and hopefully he carves out his role in OKC. Might be a tough spot for him because they really can't afford developmental games, they have to really grind hard every game for playoff seeding at this point.

Same here I really hope he finds his way. However is it not Ironic we looked much better and the Thunder looked like us when Waiters was on our team? I mean I know it was not Waiters fault for the loss but he has to stop breaking plays it takes teams out of rythem.

I'm pretty sure no one was in rhythm for OKC yesterday.

What's crazy is we have posters in here ready and willing to blame the Cavs for Dion's problems in OKC.

I think once Dion figures out what OKC does on offense, he'll be in good shape. You certainly can blame Dion on his struggles, here or in OKC, but the Cavs did little to develop him, and did even less to play him to his strengths.

If his first game is any indication, OKC will use Dion to his strengths, even if the results weren't indicative of it.

The entire OKC offense is what dion does. A couple of passes then go one on one. They are just a lot better at it than him. He should get some good opportunities to develop

They move the ball really well off of it, which I think he'll appreciate. But yeah, ISO suits him well.

Dion with the early call tonight, knocked down his first shot and should have had an assist on the 2nd but he passed it to Perkins. :chuckle:

A couple possessions later knocked down a fast break jumper.

Came in and made a long 2 with 18 on the clock but then he passed the ball to an open Perkins. He'll learn in time that that's a worse play that just forcing something.

He looks good out there, can't wait to see him in the playoffs. I've got a soft spot for all our top5 picks we made the last years, with the exception of Bennett.
