Don't honor bills, then renegotiate to a lower amount--a sound business practice if there ever was one.

Saw this acting sec of Defense to be replaced by a new acting sec of Defense :chuckle:

Then wasn't laughing as much once I saw the Wash. Post article that came out along with that, what a fucking scumbag.

I get that it sounds to be a pretty sticky situation that eventally turn into a he said she said and in the end nobody in the situation looks good, the (ex)wife, the oldest son or Patrick. Here is the passage from the article that explains the event that involved their son and Patrick's ex wife...

Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, Kimberley Shanahan and William got into “a verbal dispute” over her suspicion that the 17-year-old was in a romantic relationship with a 36-year-old woman, according to a police report.

According to police, just after 1:30 a.m., William “shoved and pinned his mother against a bathroom wall” before grabbing a $400 Nike composite baseball bat “to swing at her head,” striking her multiple times.

“I attempted to run away from Will, but as I reached the laundry room, he struck me with the bat in the back of my head,” Kimberley Shanahan wrote in a court filing in the divorce case. “The last thing I remember from before I lost consciousness is the impact of the bat, and blood gushing everywhere.”

William, Sarasota police wrote, struck several blows to his mother’s head and torso and left her “to lie in a pool of blood” and then “unplugged the landline phone cord depriving the victim and [the younger brother] the use of 911 to render aid.”

As William fled the home, situated in an exclusive, barrier-island development called Bird Key just outside Sarasota, he “tossed a bottle of rubbing alcohol” to his younger brother and told him “you clean her up,” according to the police report.

The younger brother called 911 from a neighbor’s phone, according to police records
I mean that is pretty clearly abhorrent behavior from the son there I don't know how you don't get something like attempted murder for something like that honestly, pinned her against the wall, stuck her in the head multiple times and hen left and the audacity to unplug the landline and throwing rubbing alcohol toward his brother tell him to clean her up. So what did the Ol' acting Secretary of Defense do about the situation once he arrived and while there was an active search going on for the son that knocked his mother out with a baseball bat, well...

Shanahan did not visit the hospital where his ex-wife was taken, his ex-wife later wrote in a divorce filing. Instead, over four days that included Thanksgiving, Shanahan worked to assemble a defense team and to enlist family members and friends to attend an initial hearing to try to persuade a judge to let his son stay out of jail while he fought the charges.
So yes his response to his son leaving his ex wife in a pool of her own blood was to do everything possible to make sure that his son didn't have to face the consequences to those actions and to keep his son out of custody in the mean time because..... Baseball and to go along with that his son doesn't believe in violence.

Patrick Shanahan and Byrd came to the hearing prepared to plead for the younger Shanahan to remain out of custody, citing his baseball career at an exclusive youth sports academy and prep school attended by sons and daughters of major league athletes.

“He’s a college baseball prospect. He has dreams. He has a future. His father is an executive of Boeing,” Byrd said, according to an audio recording that the court released to The Post. “If he has to sit in jail for 21 days, not only is that going to traumatize him, he’s not going to finish the semester, probably get kicked off the baseball team . . . everything is going to be over for him.”

Patrick Shanahan also vouched for his son.

“He doesn’t believe in violence,” he told the judge, “I’ve never seen him act aggressively toward his brother or any other family members, so it’s a shock to me, what has happened.”

So yeah I get that its a complicated situation and I won't even say that the wife in this situation is completely blameless, in no situation did she deserve what happen to her though. It seems like Shanahan did what he could so that they did just the bare minimum and absolutely nothing more then that, sound pretty familiar when it comes to this administration although I guess doing something more then nothing is above the baseline with most in the administration.

Here was part of email that Patrick had sent out within weeks of the attack

A Pentagon spokesman provided a copy of the email containing the memo retained by Shanahan’s brother-in-law, showing it had been sent on Dec. 8, 2011, two weeks after the attack, and 10 days after Patrick Shanahan was present at the court hearing with his injured ex-wife.

First, Patrick Shanahan wrote, his 17-year-old son had “acted in self-defense.”

“She fueled the situation by berating him repeatedly in his room in a manner that escalated emotionally and physically,” he wrote.

Seriously fuck this guy, glad that he is out of the administration and just remember as always that when it comes to hiring people in his administration even when it comes to bringing on people that are there in just an acting role Trump only brings in the best and brightest.

I love that the POTUS has filled all his cabinet positions with people who think the American people are little more than sheep to be fleeced for the benefit of the rich.

Anyone that thinks otherwise has not been paying attention to Trump's history, or the GOP's actions since Bush the Elder left Office.

Religious fanatics and the rich donor set firmly control the Party. The problem with this is that the rich make poor patriots. This has been the truth for thousands of years.

Anyone that knows history is aware that the Western Roman Empire didn't fall because of barbarian invasion; it fell because the wealthy senatorial class preferred the lower taxes under the decentralized government of the barbarian kings than paying for the collective defense of the Empire. Even if a million peasants and soldiers had to die during the transition.

Summary: The rich will always sacrifice national prosperity, and lower and middle class blood (see the Iraq and Afghan Wars), to make a profit.

Should be must watch I'm assuming this Sunday, does Trump bring out the "Sleepy" nickname when I'm sure Chuck prods on a question that he doesn't like, and just as likely what does Trump say which is like pouring gasoline on a fire in this news cycle for the next week.

Everyone light a candle for the person that has to transcribe what Trump says.

Even though he will never say it, his campaign is saying he needs help outside of his base to win reelection. Doing the George Stephanopoulos interview last week and now Meet the Press this week is a clear sign the campaign is stepping in and doing what needs to be done to reach the other 65% of America. They will limit the interactions as much as they can but to their credit they aren’t going with cupcakes. Stephanopoulos and Chuck Todd are legit news guys who are not afraid to press Trump.

I’m sure it will be a dumpster fire and he will say something outrageous when asked real questions but he can’t hide in his friendly Fox cocoon and his rallies if he wants to win. I

He fucking better press Trump. Chuck Todd has had some big swings and misses over the last couple years, including his recent comments about AOC when we should be talking about the conditions of these camps.

He's had his good moments too, including pushing back on Trumpers. Any journalist having a one on one with the president, a man who lies like it's breathing, needs to have quotes, clips, and stats on hand. Challenge everything he says frankly, because if he isn't willing to take a tough interview, fuck him, and there's no reason to take his word on ANYTHING.

Trump will either declare victory or play victim after the interview, that's all he knows. It's up to Todd to speak truth to power.

I think there is a difference between pushing Trump, and going into the interview bias against Trump and trying to hurt him. I think the worst thing a journalist could do in this case is try and push a pro democratic / anti-Trump agenda in an interview.

This is the mistake a lot of people (not necessarily journalists) have made against Trump. When, to his face, you come across as militant, all it does is rally his base. Have a real conversation, like you would with a professor/teacher you need to help you, and poke holes in his statements that way.

Who said anything about any of that? We have a president with a credibility problem. That's not bias, that's just facts. Taking him at his word, especially if he makes any sort of superlative claim, is foolish.
