This is 3 years in a row Mitchell's body has broken down in the playoffs and the farthest we've made it is the second round.

Talks need to be had, I believe.

But right now he needs to find a way to at minimum have a great offensive game.
You're assuming he's hurt, based on what, exactly?

People are speculating he's hurt, but I'm pretty sure that's not true unless you've seen something indicating otherwise. Some of that was from when he told KA to leave him on the bench a bit longer when the guys on the floor were cooking, but Evan was in on that same incident. Then Mitchell came in and did some of his uber-athletic stuff, I forget what (a break-away dunk?) that indicated he was not hurting at all.

If anything he may have already lost a quarter of a step of burst and quickness that gave him enough separation to get his shots off better against superior length and athleticism guarding him. But as far as I can tell he's as good physically as he'll ever get.

There were several occasions where he grabbed his lower right leg area last game.

It's pretty obvious to me.

we don't know what the return on Mitchell is, but 35 wins in year 1 post Mitchell is okay if there is a path. A path meaning a package of 1st round picks and young players who have some potential talent.

I don't expect this, but OKC fleeced the Clippers sending out a 29 yr old Paul George for SGA, Danilo Gallinari, 2021 first-round pick (via Miami), 2022 first-round pick, 2023 first-round pick (protected), 2024 first-round pick, 2026 first-round pick, and pick swaps in 2023 and 2025.
That path sucks and getting from 35 to 55 means 2 Allstars out of a package of bits and bobs.

OKC did it. Once. Not repeatable.

Hustling backwards so we can be where we are now in five years with a different bunch that we’ll hate just as much.

I’m trying to think of teams that did a retool, dropped short term into the lottery and what they got - Atlanta with Risacher, the Knicks with RJ Barrett, the Sixers with Edgecombe and the Pacers with Mathurin come to mind.

There’s a wide range there with good players but I don’t know if two decently good bites at the apple get you +15-20 wins.

This stirs up 2 of my biggest concerns with Mitchell. It wouldn't be surprising if he i injured since it happens at the end of most seasons for him. If it's lost athleticism, then we are in bigger trouble. Watching him work so hard just to get a shot off is painful to watch.

I don’t see that. I see him beating the POA guy but confused as to where the help is coming from so he decelerates for the finish but vapor locks a little (Toronto’s best shot blocker being out on the guards probably makes this complicated)

We are a $400 million cap hit treadmill team that haven't won a second round series. Give me some young talented players and draft picks that'll come in and play hard as hell, and maybe get the same results as this iteration of the Cavs. Toronto's not winning a title with what they have, but they have a bunch of dogs their fans can get behind. Sick of lackadaisical passes and optional defense from some on the court.

So basically go back in time pre-Donovan Mitchell?

Pretty sure troop loved the Terrell Brandon & Andre Miller era...

The Donovan Mitchell haters are spoiled brats that don't even know how good they have it...

Donovan drives me bananas as well, but, in the end, give me an NBA player of that caliber in contrast to some random 19 year old who just played his most meaningful game against Sacramento State...

Some of you dudes are just weird...

Regardless of what happens in today(and hopefully next series if we advance)
IF Donovan and Harden both want to re-up/continue, then you do it.
You just have to:

Elevate Tyson to 32-36 mpg

Trade Allen and one or both of Merrill or Strus for length more athletic wings and a wider more physical big next to Mobley.

You essentially have to have Mitchell as the smallest player in the entire 8-10 unit rotation. You have to have the backup guards and wings all be in the Tyson, Barrett, Barnes, Nesmith body type mold and you have to have a different body type (or two) in the front court complementing Mobley's thin/agile/skilled frame.

Of course that is way easier said then done.

Shit's hard in the NBA. Most teams/players will never reach a Finals, let alone win one.

Ehhh I know we're riding a high but maybe not the right idea to pull that out yet lol

Did what he had to do and made some shots.

Defense was not terrible.

Still looks limited athletically and had some really dumb turnovers but the only guy on Detroit who will be able to guard him like Scottie, Shead, and random dude who hit a bunch of threes is Ausar thompson. We can scheme around that. Levert could possibly give him a little trouble if he can stay on the floor but I don't see it. Jenkins isn't a slouch on D either. Duncan Robinson should get cooked, though he does give effort, and Cade will be too tired to play good defense. It will be about beating the second level guys and like Stew and Duren and making the right decision with the ball.

He should have a better series but I just don't trust his physical abilities right now no matter what is or isn't being reported.

Hoping for the best.
