This dude.... Where was the ball dropped in the drafting process ?

Granted I know it can be a crap shoot but there’s no way teams couldn’t have looked at this guy in their pre draft workouts and not come to the conclusion he’s a perennial all star caliber talent ?

Btw when I watch him this is exactly what I was hoping Dion would have been...

He's amazing. It's honestly very hard to tell he is a rookie

He is putting up grown ass man numbers...stole thr roty from right underneath simmons
I don't see how he beats Simmons. Simmons team will make the playoffs, he's averaging 16/7/7 vs 18/3/3 (last I checked).

If he wins ROTY it's bs. Simmons has been by far the best rookie so far.

Every stat supports it.

In Mitchell's defense, there is no stat that can capture what he's been able to do this season. He's carrying a team that has no business even being above .500 to the playoffs in the heated Western Conference.

Agree with Derek, too close to call. Honestly wouldn't be mad @ all at Co-ROTY. They've done it before, if there was any time where both guys equally deserve it ,I think it is with this 2018 race.

How do you quantify carrying?

Mitchell's WS/48 is .088

Simmons is .139

Mitchell's On/Off- On=+3 Off=+0.4 (Still a winning team)

Simmons On/Off- On=4 Off=-2.2 (Losing team)

Is he carrying them because he had a couple of game winning shots? When i'm looking at the data, Simmons comes ahead.

Being an aussie i want simmons to win roty i can just envision mitchell putting in a couple of 40 point games at the tale end of the year to close it out.

Whats really scary is simmons has a higher ceiling

I'm coming from an extremely subjective standpoint so it's difficult to form an argument in all honesty.

I don't know the advanced metrics or anything. All I know is that, when Gobert went down, a lot of pundits were looking at that Utah team like they were one of the worst teams in the league. Donovan came out of anywhere and not only has them winning games, but has them in the thick of the playoff hunt in the Western Conference.

I've had this argument with a bunch of my friends, the numbers that Simmons is putting up this year are insane; I'm very high on him. I just think that equally as impressive as his raw numbers is what Donovan has been able to do in Utah.

Mitchell is impressive as heck. Teams who passed on him are hating it now.
Watching that one show recently where they were sit down interviewing him, Simmons, Tatum, and Markkanen. Mitchell comes off bright and says all the right stuff. He'll get solid off court money also, I can see it coming.
But I still like Simmons more, he is more LBJ like and in the end may be one of the best ever unless his shot stays weak.

Best rookie I’ve seen since LeBron. For different reasons of course. Durant, Rose were nice. And non traditional rookies like Blake Griffin and Ben Simmons have been impressive— but this dude is carrying a franchise with ease...

Look at these playoff numbers in his first ever series and against a damn good team..

Honestly thought he was just another athletic good shooting guard

Impressive first round

Now do it in the finals

We could probably have gotten him in the Kyrie trade if we had a front office who could spot talent
