Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Certainly respect your opinion KS, but I don't share your enthusiasm for Cutch. He's 35 and trending in the wrong direction. Pham will be 34 for the 22 season and is not as good as McCutchen. Just my take. Sadly, they both are significant upgrades to what we have, but not what I would like to see. I'd rather resign Eddie Rosario if possible.
I'd actually prefer Pham but the key thing is the side of the plate they hit from, which makes Eddie a no-go. We have enough lefties to choose from with Zimmer, Palacios, Kwan, Jones, Naylor, and Johnson.

Pham was very good in xwOBA which suggested his downturn last 2 years was due to luck rather than actual contact made. Over his career, Pham has been extremely consistent in that stat: .351, .328, .375, .379, .355, .350, .354. I'd factor in some age effect but I also would expect his "bottom-line" numbers to be significantly better than the last 2 years.

Well we can disregard my idea of sending Rosario to Detroit for Candelario. Looks like Baez is going to be a Tiger.

We need one long term answers for the OF. We need a short term answer for the OF. The first thru trade, the second thru FA . One should be right handed. Both should be more than a DH with a glove. Hopefully, one could serve as a back up plan for first base, and/or a platoon partner with Bradley.

Every year, nobody is available, but somebody gets traded. It will be the same this year. Somebody who nobody expects to be traded will be moved.

I've been doing the prospect watch for years. The failure rate is staggering...and the Indians prospects have been no different, in some ways worse.

On the position player side, only one recent top prospect has made a dent on the field...Lindor.

Frazier, Zimmer, Mejia, Bradley, Chang, Naquin, Paulino, Ronny Rodriguez, Papi, Wendle, Wolters, James Ramsey....all were listed as a top ten 2014-15 Tribe prospect before getting to MLB.

Six/seven years later, the only one who has been productive enough to make a difference is Wendle, who has put up 8.4 fWAR in six years. The rest have combined for about 11 fWAR in 22 combined years.

Would you have traded four of them for three years of a 3 WAR player? Would you have traded four more for three years of a 3 WAR player? Would you have traded the last four for another three WAR player?

Had we done that, we would have added 9 WAR per year for three years to a team that was already the winningest in the AL.

And what would that have meant for the future of the org? Absolutely nothing.

I would without blinking trade four of our top ten prospects for a Reynolds, and trade four more for a Laureano....and merrily watch us dominate the division for the next three years, by which time the farm system would be restocked to do it again.

Anybody really care that the farm system is lower third if we have Clase and our rotation, along with Jose, Franmil, Straw, Reynolds, Laureano, Amed, and Gimenez together for the next three years? Anybody care about our position prospects while we are leading the league in runs scored?

We are screwed if we get an injury....

I'd love someone like Reynolds and I would have no hesitation trading off some prospects to get him. I lean toward not selling off the farm for the 2022 season though because it'll be so tough to compete. What happens when we trade away our guys for present day and end up missing the playoffs? This is the situation I see as more than likely.

Plus regarding OF, we got kind of screwed by the COVID situation and the MiLB shutdown. We do have internal options and I know another year of "tryouts" is not enticing, but I do think chances are high we can fill in one slot.

I like the FA/trade stop gap idea for one OF then let 2022 play out and we can do some 2021 Braves-esque moves to fill in areas of weakness if they're needed, and make the big move in the next offseason if still needed.

Reality Check - DraftKings Odds to win 2022 World Series:
White Sox +1000
Tigers +4500
Royals/Guardians +6500
Twins +7000

Is this really the year we really want to cash in our assets? I like the tactic but not the strategy.

Singly trading 4 of our top 10 prospects for any single player isn't going to allow us to dominate the division. It's more likely that 3 or 4 out of the 15 fantastic near ready prospects make an impact and cost very little for several years. Trying to compare Cleveland farm systems of past years to this one is comparing apples to oranges. This farm is far superior to anything Cleveland has had since the early 90's. How did that work out for us?

Look, I'm not against trading some excess prospect capital for a need or 3, but nows not the time to do it IMO. Not just yet. I think we're a year away from knowing a lot more. Now, if you want to deal some of the lower level prospects, Plesac, Rosario, Chang, or Clement then I'm all for that.

The quality and quantity in the farm system has been painstakingly built from the ground up with the sole purpose of putting a winning team on the field at Progressive Field.. You're absolutely right..now is not the time to have a panic'd / knee jerked reaction by sending out several of the best prospects for the hope the guys coming back fix the problem. It can be done in a manner that is more Guardian-esque !!!.. The division of tradeable versus not-tradeable is a blurry line. There are players that the CleFO have determined are the foundation of our future.. There are players that are current winning members of the parent club that should not be sacrificed for this fix, quick or otherwise....

That said.. the team on the field finished 13 games behind a club that is only getting better, stronger and more mature. Detroit is too.. Good health and continued performance will keep the Guardians right where they finished maybe better.. A real fix is going to be needed.. If that requires taking one step back to go three steps forward.. that's what's needed..

The two biggest needs are catching and corner outfield. How about a deal with the Rays?.. Kevin Keirmayer and most of his 2022 salary plus 2023 buyout, one of Ford Proctor, Blake Hunt or Heriberto Hernandez and a wild card (Cole Wilcox/Ruben Cardenas/Jacob Lopez) for Plesac, Chang, Clement and one of the lower level prospects you've mentioned? This would give the Guardians a means to at least have a chance to partially fix what ails us?.. thoughts?..

I want nothing to do with Kiermaier.

Doesn't matter anyway.. the gem of the off season just signed with the red sox.. Rob Refsnyder is NO LONGER AVAILABLE !!

truthfully.. Keirmaier is a short term fix (one/possibly two years) who brings an upper minors catching prospect and an arm lottery ticket.. you know.. the help the team now and into the future type of deal..

We have a CFer that is simply better than KK and a helluva lot cheaper. We also have 2 upper minors catching prospects. I think we have plenty of lottery ticket arms.

Bummer about Refsnyder!(insert sarcasm)

Yeah I'm a solid NO on Kiermaier (fun tip for spelling German names is the second letter of a vowel combination is the one you hear) because his value comes from his defense which would be wasted in a corner OF slot. Ditto for Straw is we moved him to corner OF.

Anyone want to buy a never opened bobble head?
