Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Trade Value site is fun to play around with, but its full of hocum.

According to it, trading Arias for Civale would be an even trade. Anybody here interested in trading Civale for someone else's Arias.

And would you trade Civale and Franmil for a Plesac?

Interesting, though, on how it values our prospects. According to its values, our prospects go...

Rocchio
Freeman
Jones
Valera
Arias
Espino
Naylor
Martinez
Tucker
Williams
Allen, jr
Lavastida
G Rodriguez
Burns
Halpin

Please, Lord, please....

Let the Orioles, A's, and Pirates use this site as a guide.

@MadThinker88

You have another top ten list for your collection now lol

I think the only thing that might us that site as a guide is MLB the Show since you can pull off some weird trades in that game lol

In the top right hand corner of the site there’s a drop down menu that contains the ‘history’ of MLB trades consummated v. their valuations. They have a good track record. FYI, the Lindor deal is in there.

Doesn't seem like he fits our mold as far as acquisitions go, but there maybe another interesting name added to the available corner outfielders this coming off season..

Seiya Suzuki <-- Click name for link to his Baseball Reference page

If he is posted, the posting fee probably eliminates the Guardians.

These guys from Japan are awfully risky. Tearing up over there is like tearing up AAA here.

Outside of Ichiro, how many Japanese hitters have been worth their contracts?

He had an over 1.000 OPS in 21, plus he can play in the infield. His speed and whatnot aren't bad either. So if you ranked him as a prospect, he would be a top 20 prospect without a doubt. I wouldn't be against putting in a bid if he is available. Though that would make getting a proven MLB bat something we cannot do financially...

He would be a top 100 for sure, but in the end he is still a prospect that will be getting paid as if he were a young veteran with a multi year track record of MLB production. On top of that his posting fee will be what a good short term FA will get.

I'd love to have him, as long as we didn't have to pay the price...lol.

Hideki Matsui and current MVP candidate Shohei Ohtani are the ones that immediately come to mind. Kosuke Fukudome and Nori Aoki may enter that convo.

The numbers say he should be fine in the bigs, but the question is the price.

Also if we did go get him, would we be considered cheap still? Lol

It's unlikely we'll ever be in the market for star Asian players. I could much sooner see us dishing out for a Jose extension.

Let's also not forget that FO is a money game and there's other reasons to pay a premium for players like Ohtani that don't make sense to us especially with our limited payroll. LA Angels are a team representing a city with a large Japanese-American population and also can afford it and attempt to cultivate an overseas fanbase too.

Japanese players have been a mixed bag, esp position players.

If Fukudome is considered a successful acquisition, consider this.

In 2008 he signed a 4/48. I dont even know what the equivalent would be in today's market, but it would be a lot more. Add a posting fee, which would be around 20%, or about another $10 mil without inflation. So, for the sake of discussion, a similar contract plus posting fee for a Fukudome level player would total $75 mil.

In the four years of his original contract Fukudome was worth 4 fWAR, almost all of it in his first two years. His best year was his second year, when he put up 2.4 fWAR.

To put that into perspective...

In his best season, he was worth about as much as Amed this year. The other three seasons plus a fifth year after the original contract, he was Mercado lite.

We had him in a salary dump at the deadline in the last year of his contract, but he did not produce for us.

I dont call that a successful signing by the Cubs.

The thing is anytime you give out more money, you are risking a lot. Cespedes was one the A's took a chance on in the international and it paid off big time for them. While we signed a veteran relief arm and he wasn't worth his contract.

The kid in reference, Seiya Suzuki, on paper without looking at him, has a plus batters eye, takes walks, above average speed... etc... He looks like he does everything well and personally I would put him in LF. If we went and got him on paper, I'd be all for it... We are the Guardians in 22 and making a splash in my mind from a PR standpoint is important as long as it's within reason. Going to get a 1.000+ OF in a AAA level of competition is a smart move in the sense we would be getting him in his prime years and because I feel like his profile is a 2-3/5 Type and that's what we really need. Now money wise, it would be more than we want to spend... Would the owner okay the move? I don't know, probably not, but it wouldn't hurt to ask ya know?

Would you do the reverse of the Ricardo Rincon/Brian Giles deal.. trading James Karinchak for Jo Adell?

Don't think there's any way the Angels would say yes to that one lol. Sure Adell hasn't been great so far but he's made strides and seen as a star potential guy.
