Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd love Olson. But I think the price in prospects might be something like Espino and Valera. I don't have the kahones to do that.
However, BTV says Plesac and Nolan Jones might be it done. I'd rather do that one.
Before last year..or the trading deadline before that.. Olson would probably demand that kind of return (Espino/Valera)..

but now that he's closer to becoming a FA and more expensive as an ARB II...

Olson won't touch Espino/Valera level of return.. He's not a Boras client as well.. so, the late & last drop of blood from the turnip isn't happening.. Give him the word that JRam is staying through 2022 (possible).. and he just might be more than interested in signing with a club that has a real chance of being special assuming the good health of the pitching staff..

seems to me there are teams who could offer more than plesac and nolan - and would if they thought they could get olson

IMO Olson is gonna be out of our price range, and doesn't solve our OF problem.

But their is an Oakland player who nobody talks about, but might be a good fit.

Laureano.

He's good, cheap, and under control for three years. And he might be a buy low possibility, because of his PED suspension.

Before denigrating this idea because of the PEDs, does anybody care about Clase's suspension?

In 1256 PAs, the equivalent of two complete seasons, he has put up 9.5 fWAR....49 HR...36 SB...335 OBP...118 wRC+....and plus defense. He is everything the FO could ask for.

He is part of a huge arby class this winter for Oakland.

In terms of prospects, he would probably cost less in prospects than most names that are being bandied about, and probably cost no more than $4 mil.

hmm.. I don't think Olson would help out our catching situation as well.. :conf (11):

Well Olson has caught a game before (and played some 3B)... plus people forget Olson has a good 1300 innings in RF... He just has been a gold glover at 1B.

When the motivation wasn’t moving contract the club has acquired these OF during the past 10 off-seasons: Aaron Cunningham, Abraham Almonte, Brandon Moss, Jordan Luplow.

My apology for being the wet blanket:)

Almonte I thought was during the season...

Either way, they aren't afraid to go get a player if they need to, but all of those guys where fairly cheap, we need a higher end bat rather than a depth piece...Essentially I think everyone wants a Miller type of trade, but for an OF of course not the All-Star setup/closer.

I stand corrected Almonte was a mid season deal.

My point being the board may want the club to acquire a high end OF this off-season (as in the past) but the club hasn’t. It isn’t their trade M.O. e.g. the wet blanket comment.

Target: Mariners Mitch Haniger; OF (must include a contract extension)
Collateral: Harry Ford; C and Brandon Williamson; LHP/LHRP (both non-40 man roster required)

Offer: Zach Plesac RHSP,
Collateral: Carson Tucker; SS and Daniel Johnson; OF

BTV value: + $ 1.8 MM for the Mariners

Discussion:

The Mariners love athleticism in their starting pitchers. The Mariners love acquiring SP's that have multiple years of control including one non-arbitration year. Plesac delivers on all of the above.. or oodles of those qualities. Carson Tucker may not become the Mariners future SS.. but he will be able to support the M's as his brother has with the Pirates. Geneology matters with baseball players.. Upon the arrival of Carson Tucker into the Mariners minor league system, he would slot into their top 15 prospects. Daniel Johnson would be and is a "throw in". "Jet" has a couple of loud tools, but has NEVER been able to put his entire game together with Cleveland. A new home may be just what he needs..

For the Guardians: Using the premise that the C.B.A. will result in a work stoppage, if Haniger can be extended with a signing bonus of his current salary for 2021 ($ 3.01 MM) before any CBA bad blood is spilled then, including his ARB III value (projected at $ 5.6 MM) and two year years, $ 16 MM (including the signing bonus).. might be something the Guardians would embrace. The two additional prospect/players immediately fill two holes in the Guardians minor league system. These guys project to the ML's as blue chip talent that would settle on the Guardians' prospect list as #'s 8 and 12, respectively. Harry Ford has the chops to be the most athletic and best back stop the team has ever had. Williamson is matriculating as an SP but has the kind of arsenal that allows him to work anywhere on a pitching staff, up to and including high leverage/back of the pen..

Thoughts?..

If I am running the Mariners, I am not moving either guy for Plesac. When it comes to Haniger and Plesac getting moved for each other, that part would be fine and on paper Haniger getting a short extension from Indians wouldn't be a huge issue, but as his agent, I am not doing an extension. He will hit FA at age 32 and Indians won't be offering the most money for my client so I am not signing an extension unless my client is okay with less money...

I will counter as Seattle's GM, since that wouldn't pass for me... I have no depth at Catcher in my organization and I feel Williamson is apart of my future plus I lack lefties in the organization.. so Tucker and Johnson with Plesac in my mind is an utter joke for those two...

My two targets from the Indians organization would be Plesac and Arias plus I would look at a Kwan as well for depth purposes, but I don't need OF outside of depth...

My counter would be... (MLB.com prospect number in organization and its FV)

OF Haniger, OF DeLoach (#6 FV 50), RHP Matt Brash (#10 FV 50), 3B Milkar Perez (#13 FV 45), OF Gabriel Gonzalez (#17 FV 45)

For

SP Plesac, SS Arias (#4 FV 55) and OF Kwan (I have him at 40) and a PTBNL or international money...

Even that I think is a prospect to much, but I want those three guys hence why I want a PTBNL/international money. Arias will take SS or 3B for me long term and I have great young talent in the OF so I want a 4th OF with possible upside...

Haniger = 9.9
Plesac = 23.8

There is no "fine" with Haniger for Plesac.. Plesac is younger, has more control.. a bona fide starting pitcher etc.. etc.. Plesac and Arias combined.. is a MASSIVE overpay.. As the GM of the Mariners.. sure.. that's a great deal for them..

Kwan barely registers value in trade.. international trade money.. and only maybe..

For the Guardians.. it's unrealistic and massively unfair.. hard pass..

Plesac might not be as good a pitcher as Bauer or Clevinger....

(He is better than Bauer at the same point in their careers and a lot healthier than Clevinger)

But his contract situation is light years better....and GMs trade contracts as much as players.

The Guardians will not trade him for a short term upgrade...and the time for trading SPs for prospects has passed.

In terms of 2022, it would be Plesac for Haniger, and that wouldn't make the Guardians better next year.

What would be your counter then? I would not be giving up Williamson or Ford since both I have plans for... I want Plesac and Arias though but I am not willing to give up any of my top 5 (via MLB.coms prospect list, nor Williamson).

Via the trade simulator I would be getting 7 more points then you if I don't include the PTBNL/international bonus number. I am at 39 and you would be getting 32..

@Gson @CATS44

I meant the fine as Haniger and Plesac being the main MLB pieces in the deal, not any possible straight up swap aspect to be honest since no way I would do that...

A trade of Plesac for Haniger would have to include additional upgrades for 2022.

We are not trading away a SP this year, unless it makes the 2022 much better.
