Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Speaking of Mercado, do you think he's earned another look over Zimmer, HRam, and Johnson? He'd also be a good platoon partner for Jones and backup CF to give Straw a break.
I'm not sure what you exactly mean by platoon here but I don't think Jones is going to get called up to platoon with a righty. Kwan on the other hand would be a perfect candidate for that, if we're moving on from Zimmer. I don't see Jones getting called up until midseason anyway.

Not gonna be a popular opinion but I don't see the Indians being in "contention" mode next year.

Straw, J. Ramirez, Bradley and Reyes are the only position players I'm totally comfortable penciling into the lineup for next year BUT Rosario, H. Ramirez, Chang, Gimenez, Miller, Mercado and Zimmer have all done enough to deserve another look and Naylor is coming back.

With guys like Freeman, Rocchio, Valera and Jones on the way, it's now or never that we get a look at some of these guys.

I could see the FO spend a little bit at C maybe just to appease the fanbase, maybe a platoon bat somewhere, but there's just a lot of bodies that still need looks and not a ton of spots to put them in.

I haven't seen the F.O. attempt to appease the fanbase in quite a few years. Any moves that they might make will either be to cut payroll or add talent to a needed area. Or an attempt at both.
Honestly, I expect to be scratching my head (at first) when they finally Do something!

Stassi isn't close defensively to Hedges or Berto.

My goodness, he can't throw at all.

The assertion that he is comparable to our guys behind the plate is too ridiculous to cite the statistics.

**********

Berto will not be paid anywhere near $7 mil next year.

*************

Our pitching makes us a contender, even without a vastly improved offense...and the offense will be addressed. In fact, the FO has already been doing the preparation for it.

You say it’s now or never to get a look?

I’m voting never.

Harold, Zimmer, Mercado, Chang… I’d remove them all from the 40-man, and expose them to waivers.

The biggest question is, do you think we would have been in at least the Wild Card race with a healthy Bieber, Civale and Plesac? I honestly think so even with our offense...

Also with the talent coming up and adding a reynolds/support for JRam in the lineup, I think as a roster we will improve immensely. JRam at times does put pressure on himself to be a superman and it can hurt him. If we add someone who is at least a Brantley type to bat with him, I think a lot of the stress goes away...

@CATS44

I am actually thinking looking at the Angels roster, Walsh should be our target from them, so would you move Plesac plus like maybe Bradley and Kwan for Walsh, SS Paris/Avol, RHP Marceaux, plus 1-2 more young 18ish year old prospects?

Walsh is interesting, and someone I'd consider, but way down my list of preferences.

He doesn't solve the problem I see, which is corner OF...unless the FO sees him as a legitimate full time outfielder.

Of they see him as a corner OF, then we can't trade Bradley.

But this trade would not make the team better next year. It would make it much worse.

I'm not trading Plesac for a marginal roster upgrade.

If I'm looking to trade Plesac to the Angels, Walsh would have to be the second MLB piece.

The Angels have three legit superstars and Adell. They also have a plethora of OF prospects.

Marsh might be a target, but he has a cranky shoulder that's been around for several years.

But, again, Marsh alone isn't enough MLB talent in return for Plesac. I'm not sure that I would trade Plesac for Marsh and Walsh.

I know that on the surface that sounds ridiculous, bur Walsh is a marginal upgrade at a secondary position and Walsh is really risky, if you are looking at production next year.

Jared Walsh has hit 27 home runs this season and has an fWAR of 2.3 in 138 games with a wRC+ of 122. He would immediately be this team's third most productive hitter in the lineup. I think you're really underrating him here.

But can we rely upon one season of production? I actually don't think it was an anomaly so I personally would say yes to that one...

The next issues is we would be selling Plesac low while the Angels would be selling Walsh high... I dont think we could really get an Adell with Walsh but we could get prospects... Though what's interesting is the fact the Angels could use a SS/utility guy, young OF with options etc... so they actually could take back Chang, Kwan, Bradley and it actually wouldn't hurt them...

It would work if you enlarge the trade..
Plesac/ Gimenez/ Daniel Johnson would be a fair deal to get Jared Walsh & Jo Adell (according to BTV)..

I think I could deal with that, still want another prospect like Marceaux back, but I don't think we lose anything with that deal at the end of the day...

News item yesterday:

"I just want to win." - Shohei Ohrani.

Translation: The Angels are open for business.

There is no way I trade Plesac, Gimenez, and for Walsh and Adell....no matter what any value site says.

And I'm not interested in prospects. My aim is to significantly upgrade the 2022 Guardians.

Adell and Marsh are prospects...good ones...but still prospects.

And Walsh may be an upgrade at first, but we need upgrades elsewhere.

If your focus is merely on home runs, which seems to be the case for so many people, Walsh has 27 in about 559 PAs.

On his present pace, Bradley would have 32.

We are way underestimating Plesac and Gimenez, and way overestimating Walsh...and we aren't focusing on our real needs.

You might but the Indians will likely continue to give them looks... that's been their MO... and I think they should.

Mercado and H. Ramirez have hit lefties pretty well and they could both platoon somewhere. Probably don't need to keep both of them though.

Zimmer has shown enough to warrant a longer look now that he has a full season of health and (hopefully) a full offseason of health. July and August he was really good at the dish. The stats sorta cratered here in September but this is the most he's played in like four years and he might've hit a wall.

Chang hasn't gotten a ton of playing time but his OPS in the 2nd half of the season has been .858

Not saying they'll keep all of them but to think they've been awful this entire season would be disingenuous. There's been some flashes of talent there....
