Duke Investigating Possible Recruiting Violation By Krzyzewski

DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke is investigating whether an NCAA recruiting rule was violated when coach Mike Krzyzewski reportedly offered a scholarship to a recruit during a summer tournament.

Forward Alex Poythress told CBSSports.com that Krzyzewski spoke to him earlier this week while he was in Orlando, Fla., for a tournament with his AAU team, the Georgia Stars, and offered him a scholarship.

NCAA rules prevent coaches from contacting recruits before they are finished playing in tournaments.

Duke spokesman Jon Jackson said in a statement Saturday that the school is gathering facts and that "proper adherence to NCAA bylaws has always been, and will continue to be, a cornerstone of Duke Athletics."

Poythress is a 6-foot-7 forward from Clarksville, Tenn. He is considered one of the nation's top high school seniors.

I don't care about any of this.

"Then why post"

I'll be shocked if anyone is shocked that this happens...

Every coach does it..

And this is nothing in the scheme of things regarding violations...

The NCAA lost control of basketball about a decade ago.

I hate Duke and wish the worst, but the contact was in between tournaments making it legal...so I've heard/read.

This is an absolute non-story. Even if it's technically illegal, it's a minor violation that every every coach commits. Why it even was reported is puzzling.

Duke reported it on themselves.

Tressell and OSU said the same thing. Except they didn't report it.

Tressell lied to the NCAA, Duke is checking to see if Coach K broke any rules.

World of difference.

And If Tressell would have reported the violations when he first knew, then it would have been a non issue.
