DAAAAAAAMN!
Look at that handle. Much improved.
Could Mobley play SF for spotter minutes? It would not surprise me if JBB tried. Lamar Stevens started at SG last year.
Mobley SF/PF/C hybrid? A true unicorn? Spooky.
Fuck that. I want him at the 4. Going by slower guys and going through/over smaller guys.
A couple things I loved watching him work on-
-Sealing off his defender with his length when driving into the pain
-Keeping the ball high and tight on the block. Definitely wants to see less issues with dudes slapping the ball away from him when he’s working toward the basket
-conversely, when working from the perimeter he’s keeping his dribble lower and his arms/hands down.
-Quicker release on his jumper. Still has a long way to go but it clearly is a point of emphasis for him. Just a quicker more fluid shooting motion. He’s already got good inherent shooting touch
This is a kid who clearly watches film and listens to his coaches and knows where some of his biggest improvements can come from.
He’s been in runs basically dominating like this with superstars from around the league basically all offseason.
The strength and conditioning portion is a long game thing. It will take a couple years of consistent work as well as him just naturally filling out more as he gets older and closer toward his full physical prime. Still about 4/5 years away from that.
I think he will score at least 17-18 a game minimum this year. I wouldn’t be shocked at 20+ I think his efficiency will go up. He will be better from everywhere on the court and more consistent from the FT line and I think he will get to the FT line more. When that dude starts taking guys off the dribble from outside the arc what else are they gonna do besides foul his ass?
I wanna see him ratchet things up a little in terms of rebounding. I wanna see even more offensive glass dominance and I wanna see him clean up the defensive glass like Barkley cleans up a chicken wing bone.
Defensively I already can tell he will be building on his elite and nearly unprecedented rookie campaign. He will be a legitimate all defensive candidate and should have made the 2nd team last year but he got penalized for being a rookie and for our team limping to the finish line. If we would have started out bad and ended strong but with the same record I bet Mobley wins ROY and makes all defense but I digress.
All signs point to our young phenom hopefully coming out and playing like a star.
