On the NBA channel, Greg Anthony said Mobley reminded him of
Tim Duncan, except that Mobley can dominate defensively
on the interior AND out to the 3 point line. And that he can
guard 1-5 one on one.

Giannis has done a fantastic job of evolving and transforming himself into what he is now. But when he came into the league he was almost a novelty with insane tools, length, handles and there were very mixed projections for his floor and ceiling. I think I was someone who was interested in taking a flier on him based on his potential ceiling.

But when you look at his actual rookie season numbers and impact, damn. It isn't anything close to what Evan is accomplishing. Think about what Evan can become with years of experience and targeted physical training and improvement. I almost can't even visualize just how good young Mr. Mobley can end up being.

well sure, but that doesn't mean Mobley will be better. Giannis wasn't very good his rookie year and there have been a lot of players who had better rookie seasons. Mobley really isn't very Giannis-like, I hope he never ends up weighing 250 like Giannis does now, because if he does he won't be nearly as fast or fluid as Giannis.

And you know this, how?

From Candace Parker:

"If Mobley is not your first half of the season Rookie of the Year -- I don't know what anybody's been watching," Parker said. "I know in terms of the statistics, it might not show his impact, but he's really honestly leading in winning plays."

When you look at big men that impact all facets of the game, its a short list Giannis is behind. Hakeem, Kareem and Duncan. All of them in my top 10. Giannis probably is a top 20 player when he retires, outside shot at top 10. Its just hard to project anyone as a top 20 player of all time. It could happen, but the chances are slim.

I say similar game to Bosh with much better defense for Mobley, so better than Bosh. Considering Bosh just made the hall of fame, that is really good projection, about as good as you can get.

Now if Mobley becomes better than Giannis, well that would be awesome.

He has Duncan's demeanor and approach to the game, but I think a point-forward version of Kevin Garnett is the best comparison.

Hmmm, ok. I guess I don't see Giannis as being a top 25 player. But maybe I'm wrong. He has some holes in his game, particularly shooting skills (pretty big hole to have). His game is pretty much about putting the ball on the floor and using his size and strength to get a bucket. Off the charts length, athleticism, and handles, I get it. But I would be surprised if this Bucks team gets one than the one title they have (enabled by Kevin Durant's toe being about an inch too long).

Evan has a much more rounded game, in my view. He's probably as good as a rookie as Giannis was in Year 3.

Shaq is a top 25 player, maybe top 10 with lots more holes in his game. Only 14 players have won the MVP more than once, some are when the league had very few players, so maybe 10 modern day players.

In the end Giannis is force both on offense and defense. Just because he isnt a good shooter from deep doesnt mean he isnt a top 20 player. You will have a hard time finding 20 better players than Giannis when his career is done.

Mobley has a better chance to be better than Giannis than Giannis did to become himself.

Well said. Still not a great chance to become Giannis, but Mobley has a better than most chance to become Giannis level one day. NBA Champion and 2 time MVP as a big man.

We will see.

His passing has me convinced he is going to be this really crazy offensive hub. He and Darius getting their chemistry up this summer is the thing I am most excited about. They are both so smart

I don't think a Giannis like strength increase is out of the question either. He is already way stronger than he was when drafted and he has more aggression than any of us thought.

I dont see elite passing for big man, when I say elite, I am talking Giannis, Lebron, Jokic and Draymond, but he has the ability to be the next level down. (and I know Lebron is a sf, but what do you call 6'9 265lbs if not a big man, lol)

And before someone says I said he wont be as good as Draymond, I only mean passing, Mobley is better in almost every other aspect of the game and Draymond is also an elite defender.

Mobley will be special, but how special we will have to wait and see.

I sort of disagree. I would put Mobley ahead of Giannis right now. The thing he doesn't have that Giannis does is passing off his gravity.

Giannis had 2 assists per game when he was a rook, Mobley is at 2.6 without the ball in his hands. That's when Giannis was playing as a wing and Mobley as a 4.

I am not kidding I think Mobley has better vision right now.
