Ex Indians update

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Naquin is done for the season. He hasn't played since Sept 11th, when he was involved in a collision.

In 454 PAs he has been worth 1.4 fWAR.

In 369 PAs Ben Gamel has been worth 1.1....pro rated to 454 would equal 1.4.

Is it a societal or ethical problem if Bauer has by his own actions made himself unmarketable?

Maybe best not to ask here since this could get into a debate I'd rather not see in this part of the forums....

In the United States, market forces often settle most questions.

The Edsel was a hell of a car, far in advance of its competition...but it wasn't marketable.

The Mustang wasn't half the car that the Edsel was, but it sold faster than it could be made...because it was marketable.

(Full disclosure...I had a 66 Stang, and I wish I had one today.)

I'm glad for Naquin that he got 454 PA's - a career high. His previous high was 294. He also had his highest OBP, slugging %, and OPS since his rookie year of 2016. He's strictly a platoon outfielder at this point (350 AB's vs RHP's against only 61 against LHP's), but he hit righties at a .283/.853 clip and there is a market for that.

Interesting splits for Tyler; as a centerfielder he hit .239/.710 in 285 AB's, but in left and right field he hit .369 in 111 AB's with a much higher HR and RBI rate.

I absolutely believe players hit better when they are playing positions where they are more comfortable. For years Lonnie Chisenhall struggled to be a decent defensive third baseman. As soon as they moved him to the outfield his hitting improved drastically.

I'd like to see what Naquin does next year if he stays healthy and somebody lets him be a platoon corner outfielder.

Speaking of which, Franmil has looked pretty good in right, although he definitely doesn't get to the warning track on deep balls as quickly as Zimmer. I wouldn't mind seeing him out there a lot more next year if it improves his hitting. By doing that they can give Josie, Amed, and whoever plays second base occasional days off from playing in the field, which could help their hitting as well.

That short-armed throw he made yesterday was right on the money. I've been frustrated for some time by outfielders who miss the cutoff man and make throws to bases that are 15-20 feet wide of the bag. Franmil showed how it's done. Use a short arm action similar to an infielder and go for accuracy. He also used his glove to pick up the ball coming off the wall rather than grab it with his bare hand, which frequently results in a fumble. Really solid fundamentals and a strong, accurate throw.

Ken Miles character in "Ford versus Ferari" had it right.. Mustang: "...that's a terrible car...." Did your Stang wag it's tail and lick your hand?... What a bow-wow..

hmm?...

Ryan Garko.. has been hired by the Tigers as their director of player development.. congrats to Gark..

I still don't know what happened when he left Cleveland...

Ka'ai Tom has signed with the SF Giants on a minor league deal (a couple days ago)

I feel bad for Carlos Carrasco. 11 games, 48 innings, 1-4, 5.73. Tough season. Hope he bounces back next year.

The Mets have lost 9 of 10 and will almost surely finish with a worse record than the Indians. Not the year CC was hoping for.

However, Eddie Rosario and Cesar Hernandez are on first place teams so good luck to them in the post-season. Same for Michael Brantley, who hit .315/.808 in 116 games, but only had 45 RBI's.

The first person cut from the 40 man this offseason(who isn't a free agent) that leaves the organization...
If you haven't Played for the Guardians, you can't be an Ex-Guardian...

It's kind of like this: Bill Belichick isn't the former coach of the Ravens.

In fact, I'm not even going to count the Spring training roster. I'm talking about the first player who wears the G's uni on opening day and is subsequently dismissed to play in another organization. (optioned to Columbus doesn't count either.)
