Ex Indians update

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There was more than a 1 inning test for Bauer. His entire 2020 season his average spin rate jumped by 400, and per him, that is impossible without some form of foreign substance. This is not knocking him, I mean, I'd of done it for the same payday he just got. Like I said when he signed, I wonder which 'version' of Bauer will show up for 2021.

I dont care if Bauer...or any pitcher...puts four ounces of pine tar on the ball. Some sort of doctoring of the baseball has been going on since baseball players started getting paid in 1869.

The one thing I want to know is the accuracy of Bauers claim that baseballs have been confiscated all over MLB this season, but only his has been publicized.

If that claim is correct, then this whole thing with Bauer is hocus. If not, .....

MLB says it wants to speed up the game and provide more action. BS. If that was true, it would do several things that would do both, but that it has refused to do for years.

MLB, not the players, got themselves into this mess. It knowingly allowed steroid use, because it wanted home runs and softball scores. Fans did, too. (Look at the thread comparing our last three WS teams. Great love for the mashers. Not so much for the 2016 club, even though it had some of the greatest pitching in Tribe history...Kluber and the Allen-Miller-Shaw back end)

1) Stop the stalling of both pitchers and batters.

2) Start rewarding the type of players who provide the on field action...bat control guys who can eliminate the shift and can bunt.

More Whit Merrifields, less Kris Bryants.

But in reality, most fans don't want that either. Just look at all the debates on Tribe baseball forums over the last decade about prospects. The debates favor power bats that K alot over contact hitters who put the ball in play and get on base... by a three to one margin.

Look at all the threads on possible trade targets. The two names that come up most frequently are Andujar and Frazier. Neither provide the kind of action that MLB says it wants to have.

Fans and MLB still dig...and pay for...the long ball. The byproducts are 25% K rates, which people now shrug at, and station to station baserunning.

About twenty years ago the NHL began decrying the lack of skating skills, esp among Canadians. There was a lot of brutish hockey going on, at the cost of the beautiful skating, which only the Russians seemed to be doing. The reasons were twofold. The fans dug players getting smashed into the corners and high sticked, and in the lower levels of Canadian hockey, the skating fundamentals weren't being taught.

Baseball in its own way has done the same thing.

Don't blame the sticky stuff. Its been around forever, and there always have been batters who could hit it. And if they couldn't hit it, they could bunt it. There just aren't nearly as many as there used to be.
so this isnt your point at all, and I am taking a very small portion of this post and going sideways with it.

However the love for the 1995 team was because that team was absolutely fucking awesome all around, it was absolutely a historic team after 30 years of fucking garbage. Yeah they beat the shit out of the ball, but they also had the number 2 or 3 pitching team in the majors that year. They showed up to the ballpark and you KNEW that team was going to win. It got to the ninth inning tie game or down 1, you might as well just light the fuse for the victory fireworks and queue up John Mellencamp

That isn't a test - that is rub your nose in it. They had been told and shown long before that what would happen to his numbers and outcomes if he adopted the use of it. And shazam, almost identical to what he had been saying publicly and privately. You are just a few years behind the timeline on the story.

No doubt it was magical. My fondest memories of Chief Wahoo are from that team.

Well I used the term '1 inning test' because that is what you used, and I assume you are talking about that 1 inning in 2018 when his spin rate jumped?

There were some great articles written about it when it happened, Bauer even encouraged people to read them when asked about the spin rate jump.

I am not sure what I am a few years behind on.

Alex Ramirez was not part of the Colon trade...
He was signed by the Int'l FA signing of the Tribe (IIRC)..

Alex Escobar was the "5 tool" OF & part of the Robbie Alomar deal with the NY Mets..

That's right.....y'all have better memories than I.....I was thinking Alex Escobar.

Escobar was part of the Tribe’s three-prized prospects at that time: Milton Bradley, Alex Escobar, and Andy Marte. All flamed out though Bradley later had some value in his none Tribe seasons.

Milton Bradley made one of the greatest catches in Buffalo Bisons history, but what a character.

Milton Bradley was awesome for us in 2003 and was probably playing the best ball of his career. Too bad he was limited to just over 100 games.

Also, Bauer has been incredible this year. Watched both of his starts.

Marte actually came after the other two were gone.

Escobar was an elite prospect, but kept collecting serious injuries, once running THROUGH an outfield wall.

No hit stuff that went kaboom in the seventh. But those first 6 innings in both games - like 2 hits total - 2 for 38. Yes he has been very good

Technically, Bryan Shaw is an Indian and an ex-Indian too.

Dinger and a walk so far tonight.
