Ex Indians update

When is a bunt a good thing except in a specific late game winnning or tying situation?

I mean early in the game, 1st person gets a double, then second person puts him to third with a bunt and then next person gets a hit or sac fly.. is there anything wrong with that sequence?

Also if there is a shift on, then knowing how to bunt is huge since you could just use it to get on first base. Ty Cobb would be laughing his ass off if you shifted on him since he would gladly take first base and so would a guy like Henderson since he is more dangerous on base than anywhere else

There was no shift, and this was a straight sacrifice.

I'm sort of agnostic towards the whole argument since few people know how to bunt and even fewer know how to defend them.

I do find it interesting that so many defend what Lindor did since it is standard internet fare to decry bunting in that situation given how it depresses run(s) expectancy so early in the game.

As it turned out, that run would have been useful since DeGrom ended up trailing 1-0 most of the game and was lifted in the 9th, whereupon the Mets bullpen made sure the game was lost. It's amazing the lack of support the best pitcher in baseball gets. Of course, after the previous day, the Mets deserved to lose this game.

Lindor had another oh-fer, and he's picking up right where he left off w/RISP.

I think Lindor's move is dumb in a vacuum, but if he's out there and saw that a bunt was a free single, take it--and I'm not going to have a problem with it.
It wasn't a "free single." As I said, there was no shift and it was a straight sacrifice. Had the catcher picked up the ball, he was an easy out. Catcher got him anyway when he tried to steal.

Just looking Lindor's stats over time. Not sure his big fat contract was justified. This post might not age well but in the post roids era when someone gets worse they rarely get better.

Wouldn’t surprise me if it took him a bit longer to get going in a new league, especially with him typically starting slow to begin with. Usually guys struggle going from league to league the 1st time.

Will be interesting to see how the NY media will react if that happens and the Mets struggle as a whole out the gate.

"If" is the key word in my post.

If it was a straight sacrifice, I hate it.

The one thing that will keep changing is the amount of money paid to the top free agents. So while $30 million a year is a ton, 5 years from now, if revenues for TV and ticket prices keep increasing, that might seem like a bargain.

Interesting? He’ll be crucified by NY media.

Yandy Diaz.....2019 was a huge step forward for him.

2020 was a step backwards. His power increases went back almost to zero. Like when he was with us. Almost exclusively a singles hitter.

Has old friend Julian Merryweather become the Blue Jays closer?

Rays with 4 former Indians on the field: Yandy Diaz, Francisco Mejia, Joey Wendle, and Chris Archer. They won 4-0.

Anthony Santander with another HR last night, too.

Kevalier raised this question in another thread, but it's more appropriate here...

Who ends up with a higher WAR at the end of the year, Lindor or the combination of Gimenez/Amed Rosario?

Update: for the first time this year, Andres & Amed took the lead over Francisco in bWAR, 0.3 to 0.2. The horserace is on!

His Mom is Chilean but managed to see the opening series in Yankee Stadium (where Julian got two saves) despite being home in Chile and told me that it was nerve-wracking but so exciting. The family has gone through lots of ups and downs with Julian and you feel so much pressure when you've had a major injury and you're that age, but the kid is mentally tough (mom's a scientist) and he's an easy guy to root for.

Absolutely it is easy to cheer for Julian..
