Ex Indians update

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When you mention Gaylord, unfortunately the first thing that comes to mind is the spitball.
As a close observer of the situation, here are my thoughts on Gaylord.

Did Gaylord throw an illegal pitch?
Yes. But not nearly as often as people think.
His whole thing was to get inside of the batter's head. Was it coming or not?
Gaylord would go through plenty of gyrations pre-pitch, touching and tugging on this and that.
But Gaylord was an excellent pitcher even without his special pitch. You've got to have something to last 22 years in MLB.
With the Tribe in 1972, he was dominant. 24 Wins, 1.92 ERA, 40 GS, 29 CG, 0.978 WHIP.

BTW, it wasn't spit. It was probably some Vaseline type substance.
He was inspected many times by the umpires, but they never found a drop.

Gaylord Perry was thrown out one time in his career for doctoring the ball, it was my ex co-workers dad Dave Phillips that threw Gaylord out. Later they would become friends. Side note, same umpire who confiscated Albert Belle's bat and was the head umpire when the White Sox game got suspended for a fire in the outfield on Disco Demolition night.

I have mentioned this before, i did meet him once, and i have talked about a mortgage with him, but never did one for him.

The Indians used to Jerry rig the rotation so that Gaylord would pitch on Friday nights at home, if possible, to attract more fans.

My cousin Bill and I would go up to see him pitch. One Friday Gaylord was facing Jim Palmer. We got caught speeding in Independence, and didn't get to the game until the home half of the second inning. By then Baltimore was up 2-1.

We did not get to see one baserunner for either team. 90 minutes of perfect pitching by both HOF pitchers. Hardly had enough time to drink two beers.

Heyman is bandying about a rumor that Carlos Rodon is going to the Cardinals.. no actual evidence or following on comments by anyone even indirectly connected..

Just because he no-hit us doesn't mean he was our property! ;)

LAD, who have been rumored to be after one of the "four big SS's" appears to be pivoting to the DBax and Dalton Varsho. The discussion is alleged to be a potential deal where Dalton Varsho goes to LA.. Interjecting some "guys" into this negotiation from the Guardians might net us a catcher the Dodgers.. Jesus Galiz, perhaps?

Detail to follow..
