Fantasy Football 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Gibson if it’s 5 years
Yeah, so the creator of this league has it so the number of keepers starts at 3 then works up to 6 then back down to 3 adding or taking away 1 player each year.

My current choices for keepers (2QB, PPR) are:

Mahomes
Prescott
Gibson
Swift
Michael Thomas

I could keep three of these guys for as long as I want. I'm aiming at holding on to Dak and Mahomes until their arms fall off.

So next year you'll be able to keep four guys instead of three?

And given the five year thing, I think I'd be more inclined to go for Gibson or Swift than Kelce. Hell, even Michael Thomas wouldn't be a bad keeper in full PPR. I expect him to rebound big this year. Gibson/Swift could be an RB1 for the next four years, and Thomas is 28 and has the type of game that should age well. Kelce, amazing as he is, could fall of a cliff next year. The end comes quick for lots of guys, and he'll be 32 in five months.

Of course, Kelce could be the Tony Gonzalez outlier and play at a high level until he's 37, but I don't like to bet big on outliers in fantasy football.

Also, what's the QB situation in this league? I'd almost be inclined to just keep Mahomes and then shuffle two other QBs through my roster if there are decent guys available in the draft every year. Of course, if every team is keeping two QBs, this point can be disregarded.

This is a 10 teamer and this draft is the 4 keepers level moving up towards 6. I'm picking 4th this year.

Here's what I project for QB keepers as follows:
  • Mahomes
  • Rodgers
  • Murray
  • Allen
  • Burrow
  • Russ
  • and Dak
That leaves a lot of guys, but it also means other teams are going to be playing catch-up at the position. It's 6 pt TDs too, so having two good QBs goes a long way. These are some players that will be available to draft (before any pre-draft deals that can still be made):
  • LJax
  • Najee
  • CEH
  • Herbert
  • Swift
  • Ridley
I really think that I get Swift at pick 4 if I wanted him again.

So, I am looking at a couple potential starts if I don't make any deals:

Dak, Mahomes, Gibson, Thomas, Najee/Swift/CEH
Mahomes, Gibson, Swift, Thomas, Herbert
Mahomes Gibson, Swift, Thomas, Ridley/CEH/Najee, then Lawrence/Hurts/Tannehill type as my #2.

I dunno. I'm getting ahead of myself. There are some teams who don't have 4 good keepers and can trade for guys on other rosters up until draft day.

Any of you guys do Underdog best ball leagues? I try to get in a couple a week. I won about $500 from them last season and now they're doing tournaments too with some pretty decent prizes.

I just finished drafting from their new "Puppy" tournament. Five dollar buy in. Fifty grand to first place. You do drafts in 12 team leagues with a thirty second timer on picks.

My team:

QB - Mahomes, Hurts, Zach Wilson
RB - Harris, Montgomery, Conner, Mattison, Cohen
WR - Diontae, Jeudy, Mike Williams, Marvin Jones, Hilton, Edwards, John Brown, Cole
TE - Kelce, Thomas

Obviously went with the Kelce/Mahomes stack to start, as stacks are pretty important in tournaments. I was hoping to get CEH with my early third rounder, but he went two or three picks before me and so I settled for Harris. When I got Diontae later, I planned to grab Big Ben later in the draft for obvious reasons, but some asshole took him three rounds before his ADP.

I reached a bit for Logan Thomas, but that was in the name of ensuring I only had to draft two TEs instead of three. I wasn't planning on getting two Raiders, but John Brown fell twenty picks past his ADP and I figure one of those two guys will probably emerge in Vegas as a useful best ball player.

I think my receivers are pretty solid for a best ball format. Lots of boom/bust guys in what will either be good offenses or, like the Raiders, playing from behind a lot. I grabbed Keelan Cole in the last round just to stack with Wilson because it's the 18th round and who gives a fuck.

These best ball drafts are fun. No waivers. No trades. Basically means you have to take shots.

I did a best ball league on sleeper but not much else.

I'm in a dynasty contract league. Essentially, the rules are that we do an auction draft every year. Two hundred dollar budget. The amount that you win players for during the auction is what you can sign them for. You can sign a player for a max of four years at that value. Cutting a player costs you 1/3 of their yearly contract over the life of the contract, so cutting a player at $9 over the next three years would leave you on the hook for $3 each of those three years, with that amount being deducted from the draft budget.

We won't be drafting until next month, but our league got renewed today and it got me thinking about who I wanted to keep. I'll organize them into groups, sorted by position. Years remaining counts this season, so two years left means the contract would expire after the 2022 season.

This is a 10 team, 2QB league. We did superflex last year due to the uncertainty with covid, but I think it's swapping back to straight 2QB this year. We have twenty total roster spots.

The No Brainers:

QB - Kyler Murray - $15 - 2 years remaining

RB - Nick Chubb - $12 - 1 year remaining
RB - Aaron Jones - $1 - 1 year remaining
RB - D'Andre Swift - $1 - 3 years remaining

WR - DK Metcalf - $3 - 2 years remaining
WR - Chris Godwin - $1 - 1 year remaining
WR - Diontae Johnson - $5 - 3 years remaining
WR - Bryan Edwards - $1 - 3 years remaining

TE - TJ Hockenson - $5 - 2 years remaining

I feel like those are all no-brainer keepers. It's 2QB, so having a top ten QB like Kyler at fifteen bucks is fantastic value. Similarly, those three RBs are all good value. At receiver, the first three are obvious keepers and I think that, at a buck, it's worth holding Edwards and just seeing if he can become the alpha in Las Vegas. Worst case, he doesn't do shit again this year and I cut him to pick up the best guy on the waiver wire. Hockenson is basically a lock to a be top five QB if healthy, so I'll take him all day every day for five dollars.

Now we move on to the second group...

The Bubble Guys:

QB - Sam Darnold - $12 - 2 years

RB - Miles Sanders - $26 - 2 years
RB - Leonard Fournette - $5 - 1 year

Darnold is tough. If he rebounds this year under a potentially competent coaching staff with some fantastic weapons, that contract could be a value in 2QB. But I'm also thinking I might rather have eight bucks in the draft than roll those dice.

Sanders is the tricky one. I think he could easily justify that price tag and be a top ten RB this year, but that's also a lot to pay for a player who has been a little underwhelming thus far. But he doesn't have a ton of competition in that backfield.

Fournette is likely getting cut, but that's not a horrible value for a guy who might be the RB1 on the reigning Super Bowl champs.

Thoughts?

I’m trying to move off darnold if he even looks decent this year, so I’d be leaning towards cutting him and keeping sanders

I might see if I can trade him. It’s straight up 2QB so someone may be willing to take him off my hands. Even if it’s just dumping the contract that would save me four bucks for the auction draft this year and next that I’d eat if I cut him.

So it’s not even August yet and we’re already down Cam Akers and Michael Thomas.

Brutal.

Which 4 keepers would you rather have? 10 Team, 2QB, PPR. I can keep 3 of these forever and the 4th four more times.

Option 1
Mahomes
Dak
Gibson
Swift

or

Option 2
Mahomes
Dak
Kelce
Swift

So you're asking if we'd rather keep Gibson or Kelce? Personally I'd say Kelce, but I'm admittedly lower on Gibson than consensus
