An amazing debut I read recently is Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio. I see a lot of influences from many different classic and modern sci-fi and fantasy greats: a little name of the wind, a little dune, some book of the new sun and red rising... But he just managed to put it all together in such a way that it's amazing he wrote it all at 22. Not a nonstop adrenaline rush by any means, but the universe feels so authentic and the main character is the best protagonist I've read in a while.

Edit: and elements of Ender's game as well.
Does it seem that this will be a "series" of books? I have trouble reading books that just "end" and nothing ever happens to answer questions i have.

Yep, the author has said he's already written the first draft of the sequel. And it's definitely going to be a series of books.

"Shattered Sword": by Parshall and Tully. Battle of Midway, more from the Japanese perspective. I have read every book on the Battle of Midway and this is by far the best.

What do you reckon? History, bios, science/nature?
I'm looking more self improvement or digestible neuropsych, handling your mind and emotions, motivation, postive psychology

Umm I read the righteous mind recently which was really interesting. It's about moral psychology by Johnathan haidt.

What about anything to deal with depression, emotional pain, motivation.. It can either be cerebral or not. Haven't had enough on cbt, most of the stuff I've learned on clearing the head is just meditation etc. I have one book on motivation and pushing yourself regardless of circumstance and it was difficult to get through.

All I can recommend is Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.

I think @Hydroponic3385 is the authority on what you are asking for.

I am still on the textbook phase of Psych. But if you want history/bio etc., let me know.

Does anyone listen to audiobooks? I drive 50 minutes to and from work everyday so those would be nice to listen to. I really want to start reading A Game of Thrones but I just don’t have time.
