Since somehow Mario is still popular as can be for those who grew up in the NES days as a very young kid assuming you grew up and stuck with Nintendo what are the favorite games you played of all time. It can be a top ten or a one game list up to you. I will do a top ten as I am going through almost all of them again except for the Wii games off springs and a few New Super Mario Games. Here is my top ten and look forward to your most loved Mario games. Note this has to be Mario platforming games.

10. Mario Sunshine
9. New Super Mario Bros (DS)
8. Mario 2 (JP)
7. Mario 2 (USA)
6. Super Mario Bros
5. New Super Mario Bros U
4. Super Mario World
3. Super Mario 3D World
2. Super Mario 64
1. Super Mario Bros 3

SMB3 just has what made the series great and it was the first game I can remember just being wowed by. While SMB2 (USA) gave us the mini game idea SMB3 took it with toad houses and stage select to a whole new level. Also that sun and Bertha the fish gave me nightmares.

I'm an expert at the classic NES games (I've done speed runs for SMB3).

1) Super Mario 3
2) Super Mario World
3) Super Mario 2
4) Super Mario RPG
5) Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
6) Super Mario Land
7) Super Mario Bros
8) Super Mario 64
9) Paper Mario
10) Super Mario Bros: Lost Levels

1. Super Mario RPG
2. Super Mario 3
3. Super Mario 2
4. Super Mario
5. Paper Mario
6. Mario 64
7. Yoshii's Island

All I really remember. We were talking Zelda games at work yesterday. Zelda > Mario

I know those 23+ won't like this, but the Galaxy games were a hit.

Mario 3 is definitely number one for me, with Mario 64 a close second. Beyond that, I don't really have a preference. Sunshine was underrated, I think, especially in retrospect, but it's not as good as the two I listed above.

If I'm going to go back and play a Mario game, though, it's probably going to be Mario 3 or 64.

As far as Zelda, it's basically Ocarina of Time and then everything else, right? Ocarina of Time is my personal pick for best game of all time, and it still holds up surprisingly well today.

SMB3 is definitely tops. Super Mario RPG was a nice mix of interactive turn-based battles and Mario lore. Wasn't until the past few years that I discovered the Quartz Charm was actually useful in certain battles (Jinx, Smithy pt. 2).

As for Zelda, it's definitely A Link to the Past and Ocarina as 1 and 1A. The recent Link between Worlds is also a great spiritual sequel to LttP. Granted, I also love all Zelda games save for the CD-I nonsense and Zelda 2, so I still got into Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess despite the mixed reviews from other people. LttP, Ocarina, and Majora's Mask were games I played hooky for because of my love for the series.

No love for Super Mario World in this bitch? wtf..? That game basically sold millions of Super Nintendos.

The 3 games for the NES were it for me, with Mario 3 at the top. I liked the later ones fine enough, but I was burned out on Mario a bit by then, and I got a Genesis instead of a Super Nintendo anyway.

I actually liked that one too. It was hard to play at first, got the hang of it.

Us Sega kids grew up to be pretty cynical.

I think my issue with Super Mario World is that, while it was a great game, I still preferred Mario 3 to it. Given that they're both 2D and otherwise pretty similar, if I was going to choose to play one I'd generally stick with Mario 3. Super Mario 64, meanwhile, is just a totally different game, so it stands out as well.

You could say that about every 2D Mario though..

World really was a major improvement over 3. I have no problem with SMB3 > World, because to me SMB3 set the bar. But I think World blew a lot of kids away, me included. It was the ONLY reason I ever wanted an SNES.

And while it is less challenging, it is more accessible, and it's a longer game with greater replayability.

1. Mario Kart SNES/N64/Gamecube
2. Mario Kart Wii
3. Super Mario World... World over 3 because it's just better all around, imo. Especially Yoshi. Not to mention, you could save your progress.
4. Mario 3
5. Mario 2
6. Mario 1

I did not like Mario 64, I prefer the 2D games.

I never really played any Mario games, aside from Mario Kart, after N64. Which are the closest ones on the Wii and Wii U to the 2D games?

i dont like 3D mario games either, except for Kart but that doesnt really count.

Mario RPG is really fun, so is Paper Mario. I grew up on the SNES so i like those Mario games the best
