Favorite things about (or memories of) minor league games

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Thought I’d resurrect this thread. I must say, I do not like the current schedule regimen where every week is identical (with rare exception), teams play Tuesday through Sunday and off on Monday. So tonight all my eggs are in the parent team’s basket. I want games every day, on at least a couple of the affiliates levels.

Having said that…

It’s great to be able to go to a game and only have to navigate through two or three thousand fans, and not spend a fortune. The minor league parks all have some unique features, some have great food (get a gourmet hot dog if you’re ever in Harrisburg, PA), and the players are generally friendly towards fans if you want autographs- my oldest son (I have 7 kids) has collected autographs since he was little, starting at Thurman Munson Stadium way back. Travis Driskill was signing that day, I remember encouraging my son to get his autograph, I told him “this guys pretty good!” Now he has zillions of signed baseballs.

I went to Erie a couple of weeks ago and saw Valera hit a homer off the scoreboard in right center, then saw Noel hit one to left that went about 3 miles. Pries also homered. They lost a slugfest but it was really fun nonetheless.

I’m not a kid anymore, these road trips are a bit more daunting than they used to be, but I still love the whole experience.

Here's one that might warm your ice cold hearts about the NYY's...

..while riding in the Trenton Thunder team bus from the hotel, one of several trips btw.. I had the chance to sit and speak with several NYY farm hands.. they all spoke spanish, as did I.. We talked about the city (Akron), the United States, women, food, restaurants, the best ways to become friends with non spanish speaking people.. etc.. etc.. life, in general.. These kids truly touched me.. The ride was ten minutes.. but we all sat on the bus talking for nearly an hour.. Later that night, a group of us went to the game (free tix... courtesy of the Trenton Thunder) and during the game.. they brought over a baseball signed by every member of the team that was on the trip.. it's a baseball I cherish..

Oh.. only a two or three of these guys ever made it as NYY's.. not that it matter to the story...

I actually grew up in a military family, so my first experience was the team in Great Falls, Montana and than after that we hit a lot of Canton Crocodiles games lol

I've watched tribe farm teams in Lake County and Colorado Springs, both fun places to watch a game. The funniest MiLB game I caught was the Clippers when they were the Yankee AAA team. Bucky Dent managed Ron Kittle, how I remember I don't know, gorged with mushrooms as we were.
