Francisco Lindor, Carlos Carrasco Traded to the Mets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sucks for Cookie - he should be retired as an Indian. Cleveland management literally has no loyalty.

If I was a player, I would not sign an under market contract with them for any reason.

I will again state what I've said here for a few years, since it seems to be coming up in conversation right now. Frankie wanted to stay in Cleveland, but he wasn't giving them a "hometown discount". If he had the same offer in terms of money and structure from CLE, LAD, NYY, NYM, LAA, etc. he would have stayed in Cleveland (akin to what Manny wanted back in the day).

Making real advances to that last winter, then Covid hit, and here we are. Indians were never going to be able to pay him what they felt he could make after that.

Wouldn’t it have made more sense to just play the year out and let Lindor walk after the season? This return seems pretty terrible, could’ve probably found similar pieces in other deals.

Dude. It is a business. Players know it. That’s why they hold out. Don’t sign contracts Etc. It is not personal

What sense would that make?

And if the deals from other teams were similar, what difference does that make?

so the indians are going to have to make other moves right? Didnt they already have too many guys on the 40?

He never said he wanted to stay in Cleve. He can make so much more $ in NY off the field

Well that is one way to dump payroll in one quick trade. About $25 to $30 million
Just under 23 apparently. About half of the second lowest (BAL). Is this a new record decade low?

There's just too great a disparity in revenue due to TV market size. It was an issue even in 1995-2001. Indians had the ticket revenue and merchandise revenue but were far behind the Yankees (at one point it was $100 mil vs $20 mil and it's greater now). Not even Dan Gilbert would cover that big a gap.

It hurt watching all the players leave from that 90s team and see some of them get rings elsewhere. It's frankly been a miracle this small market team could continually come back from losing so many very good or great players through free agency or trades to avoid losing to free agency.

I remember the Indians had Chambliss and Nettles go to the Yankees and got nothing much back - they both won rings in 1977-78. This has been an issue for a VERY long time.

For what? To win 85 games and then get nothing for him in the offseason?

So we got a poopoo platter for two of our best guys? Ah well. Writing has been on the wall.

I don’t know, I guess I would have valued one last run with the current core (including Lindor and Carrasco), over this set of lottery tickets.

I guess this is the official white flag for 2021.

More pissed about throwing Cookie away like nothing. Wanted that guy to retire an Indian.

Trade blows. Outside of that OFer who I don’t know anything about, none of those other guys are headliners for a superstar and an ace caliber pitcher. The rebuild is on in full force boys, buckle up.
