Francisco Lindor

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know it's not at all a reason to give a guy $30 M per, but man do I think keeping Lindor would give a big boost to the fan-team relationship.

That would be a good thing to boost fan support but honestly not having a losing season in the last 7 seasons isnt enough to get out fans then resigning Lindor sadly won't be either

I posted this on Twitter, but with the wave of young talent incoming that will be relatively inexpensive at first, why not go all-in and sign him? Your 2022 Indians lineup could look like this:

C-Roberto Perez or Bo Naylor
1B-Nolan Jones
2B-Tyler Freeman or Brayan Rocchio
SS-Francisco Lindor
3B-Jose Ramirez
LF-George Valera
CF-Oscar Mercado
RF-Daniel Johnson
DH-Franmil Reyes

A lot of question marks here and therein lies the problem of handing Lindor a huge contract and hoping to fill in youngsters around him.

* I would be shocked if Naylor, Rocchio or Valera are ready by 2022
* you are banking on Jones, Freeman and Johnson working out
* we only have seen 3/4 of a season out of Mercado so still no proven track record here yet either.

a whole lot of uncertainty in this lineup

Naylor will most likely debut by 2022. He just played a full season at Lake County in 2019. This year is likely a Lynchburg/Akron year with 2021 being an Akron/Columbus year. Late '21 or early '22 seems like a likely ETA.

Rocchio and Valera are just a tad behind Naylor with both of them playing almost their entire seasons for Mahoning Valley. They'll likely debut at that approximate time as well, but I get what you mean about them being "ready".

I don't think he's banking on anything. Just saying that our books are set up in a way that most long-term money will be off the books by then allowing them to pay Lindor while surrounding him with a lineup riddled with pre-arb guys.

Welcome Tx... I'm happy to see another person migrate over from IBI..

Completely agree. Signing Lindor would be a short term PR boost but zero guarantee of increased attendance.

I hear what you are saying but if these guys are not ready or do not pan out (which happens a lot) now you have what everyone fears, that one guy with the monster contract and a garbage team around him. I understand the thinking here and really hope they find some way to keep Lindor but given the fact Dolan doesn't seem to have an appetite for an aggressive payroll it is a huge risk.

Something to watch and keep an eye on.

If you start to hear rumblings about the new TV deal coming up in a few years over the next few months/this season and all that entails with it (and it's being fed by Indians media or Indians beat reporters), keep your eyes and ears open.

Is it a potentisl game-changer? I have high hopes because it's been a game-changer for other teams.

Yes, for a number of reasons.

Huge positives for both sides and has been treated as such, but also potential for a power play. Why I am curious if stuff starts to leak in the coming months about it.

Power play for whom? My guess would be Lindor - big tv contract = big asking price. And maybe Indians-aligned media tries to throw cold water on the impact of said TV deal?

I think what he is saying is it would be a power play from the Indians side and possibly could get the 10/200 type of deal to the 10/300 that his camp feels he could get in free agency. I mean if we can get a big tv deal that could allow us to allocate more money to the payroll which in turn could allow us to resign Lindor while running the team the same as we have been.

Has anyone in the media clarified when the contract runs out?

Is it possible or has it been mentioned...... Maybe giving Lindor the $$$ he seeks but spreading it out over a much longer contract term. What's the current predictions he will get on the open market in 2 years ? He's set to make 17.5 this year and say 20 next year, totaling 37.5 ... He will be 28 years old in his UFA year, making a 10 year contract his last one. I'm proposing 15 years 350-400... Averaging 26.6 per year.

Every time i see a post in this thread my heart jumps just a bit....
