Francisco Lindor

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Is it possible or has it been mentioned...... Maybe giving Lindor the $$$ he seeks but spreading it out over a much longer contract term. What's the current predictions he will get on the open market in 2 years ? He's set to make 17.5 this year and say 20 next year, totaling 37.5 ... He will be 28 years old in his UFA year, making a 10 year contract his last one. I'm proposing 15 years 350-400... Averaging 26.6 per year.
I dont think it takes that much.

There are some posts in the tribe fest thread that got into some details. If i recall the thought process is that it will take 27.5-30 a year for an extended period of time (7-10 years). The way to get it done is to both front load the contract, plus take it out past the length of time he would be playing.

This has been exactly my thought. We have kids in the minors who should be ready in the next 1-3 years who will be on cheap deals. Why not give Frankie in the neighborhood of say 35 mil for 5 years while these kids are cheap and then 25 mil per on the back end when these kids start hitting arby? that still gets him 10/300 and maybe doesn't hamstring the FO as much with building the roster around him.

We wont pay that much a year as a team, plus I don't think Frankie wants to be a free agent again in his early 30's and risk money, I bet its going to take 10 years to get him.

I am starting to lean that lots of very good short stops are free agents this summer, if he doesn't want our number it sucks, but we can se who falls through the cracks and sign someone on a reasonable contract. Lindor, Báez, Correa, Seager and Story are all free agents, Lindor might not even be the best SS free agent that summer, on top of it there is about 5 or so SS free agents who are good.

Basically the market will be flooded and if they don't start signing extensions soon, I am not sure the best idea is to pay one of them 30+ million a year when one the top 10 or so will fall through cracks. I love Lindor, but he isn't the only very good young SS, sucks but you have to be smart about this being a small market team.

My plan was for 10 years. The first 5 at 35 mil per and the back 5 25 mil per. 10/300. Still gets him his 30 per year and maybe doesn't kill us as we have to start paying the kids again.

I mean it would be nice to front load it in a sense, that way we can resign/extend other guys as well and front loading it would give us the best opportunity since I feel that 2022/23 crew is going to be super good.

I wouldn't even waste time on talking per year figures.

All that matters to Frankie and his team is the guaranteed total.

Do you think there is legitimate hope of something getting done?

Do you think there is legitimate hope of something getting done?

Yes.

And that will continue until I hear otherwise.

Both parties want an extension to be done, that would be scenario #1 for all involved.

But Frankie has his number he wants to see and the Indians have to find a way to get there (or come really close because if all numbers are even or even a few million off, staying is his #1 want) while being creative, which they are doing.

Whole situation gives me Manny Ramirez vibes though. Manny wanted to stay, held out hope that the Indians would offer a competitive deal after the Red Sox offered him until the last possible moment, but they never did.

So the rumor of a 'We Are Lindor' music video is essentially a waste of our local media celebrities' time?

I'm not going to say be prepared for Stipe Miocic singing corny lyrics, but I would suggest listening to Berserker off of Clerks in your spare time. Just in case.
