Francona Stepping Down

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can’t read the above tweets, so might be saying the same thing, but Elias says the wins for the rest of the year go into escrow until it’s determined if Tito returns for 2022. If he does, he gets them. If not, Hale gets them

So does that mean Hale is likely the next manager if Tito leaves?

Two schools of thought.
1) he was next man up in the succession line
2) they are giving various guys face time and experience as the top guy. See who works best with the FO, see who has the personality for the role….we saw sandy last year, they have some idea with sarbaugh….

I do think they know Tito’s time is limited.

Got a feeling Tito will be back in 22.
Should be an interesting year. Probably an increased payroll. Probably a new minority owner. Probably some good looking young players.
First season for Guardians.

I believe this is the expectation within the organization.

But Tito has seemingly had quite a bit of trouble with his health, that should come first.

I hope he’s able to do it.

last year it was blood clots? that forced him to miss time -- hope tito's back for a while longer - but if it goes into 2022 it's probably time to make him manager emeritus and move along with someone new

I recall hearing somewhere, either on a game broadcast or one of the local radio sports talk shows, that Tito has had over 30 surgeries in his life.

What do you guys think about Matt Quatraro as Tito's successor whether it's in 2022 or 2023? To me, he seems like the ideal candidate as he worked his way up the ladder as a minor-league manager before working in the Rays organization and then serving on Francona's staff here from 2014-2017. He's been Cash's bench coach in Tampa since 2019 and has interviewed for managerial openings in recent years. On paper, he looks like a slam dunk candidate for this gig, but I'm sure there are plenty other worthy candidates as well when the time comes for Francona to walk away.

I'm surprised this got out early. Franchise went on full lockdown when word came down a few days before it was official.

He should have done this a few months ago, he's been struggling for some time. Think it's a toss up right now. 50% he's managing in 2022, 50% he slides into a front office position.

man, wish it was at least 51-49 for a return- still, it seemed that from published reports recovery time from the foot surgery and rod placement would go into spring training

Good to see a post from you, it’s been awhile. It’s not the thread topics, but since you are here, can we get more Bauers stories lol?

Bauers - FO might want to take this and other similar surnames off the organizational approved list

IDK what all of Tito's medical issues are. Being someone who has dealt with some stuff, I can say that one badly worn out body part (in my case a knee) leads to a range of other problems because of the way you compensate for the pain. A bad knee lead to lower back problems, problems with the opposite knee and foot, etc. because it makes you move defensively to protect the main problem.

If Tito needs a hip replacement then there's a good chance that is affecting him negatively in several other areas not to mention the mental strain from dealing with pain and all the complications. The combination of all these factors results in a negative effect on your overall health.

In my case once the main problem was fixed then most of the other problems either disappeared or were greatly reduced. The difference in how you feel overall is huge once you've completely rehabbed, and then you can pay more attention to other aspects of your overall health and well-being.

Hopefully this is the case with Tito, and if he gets relief from major joint replacement then hopefully the positive effects spill over to benefit his overall health, which in turn can lead to him feeling well enough to come back for a few more years.
