Let's get some free agent target talk in here... I'll do a post later about who I wanna target once I get off of work!

FREE AGENCY <=== the LAND of DIMINISHING RETURNS

FA is no way to build a team, but it is way to acquire a low cost, short term, fix.

We are not gonna shop at the Mercedes dealership, so no sense talking about the big name players. But there are several used Chevys that we may kick the tires on, and then ask the out the door price.

In no particular order...

Gomes, or a return of Berto.
Canha
McCutchen
Calhoun
Pham
Any number of vet relievers.

@CATS44

Dolan wouldn't be considered cheap I'd he went and signed Bryant now would he? Lol

Andrew Chafin is a free agent... he's on my shortlist just depending on how much he wants in free agency.

Easy! Get the Yanimal back in Cleveland so that we can have a good defensive C that can also hit. I'd do a 2 yr deal and I offer $14M. Might be willing to do an option yr as well. We should be able to keep him fresh with Hedges as the backup and Lavastida can find his way when he's ready.

Conforto's 21 season is a bit of a concern, but he's been a solid player and is in his prime. I guess if he were to fall to the Guardians' price range(whatever that may be) I might give him a look. I'd take the 2019 Conforto in a heartbeat.

Not a lot out there in FA honestly, and I'm afraid that there are going to be numerous teams looking to sign Gomes. A trade or 2 is probably the best path toward improving this ballclub.

Avi Garcia declined his $12M with Milwaukee. I'd keep an eye on him and sign him if the numbers were acceptable. Maybe someone gives him more money, but stranger things have happened. He'd look nice roaming RF in Cleveland.

More importantly MKE did not use a Qualifying Offer on him... Any team signing A Garcia will not have to surrender draft pick compensation back to MKE..

They had the Guardians signing Canha (number 30) at a 2/24

Then they said an off chance of the Guardians getting Conforto..

Suzuki from Japan is supposed to get a 5/55 with a ten million posting fee... so 65 total. Would anyone here be willing to do that?

Garcia is a 3/36 projected... He had a good year in 21 and will bank on it, but can we afford to do that?

Soler had the same type of money projection, would anyone want him? I want more power, but not sure I want him since he hasn't been consistent nor a solid fielder...

Gomes is projected at 2/10 and if he is signing for that, I think that the Guardians would get that done and have him split time with Lavastida in 22. I know he's older, but I think would be a good mentor for Lavastida..

What do you guys think?

Personally I wouldn't be afraid to do Gomes and Suzuki... I know that's a gamble but I think this is the time to take the gamble!

If you can sign both those guys (Suzuki, Gomes) and swing a trade to bring in one more "heavy hitter"... That's a decent off-season to say the least.

I posted this in the off-season thread..I'll blank it out.. no reason to have competing threads...

Hmm..

-Suzuki.. looks and swings like the proverbial "slap hitter".. The CleFO hasn't made a practice of taking on ten$ of million$ of dollar$ in contract committment for someone soooo unknown..

-Gomes at $ 5 MM AAV..would be okay.. the Yanimal may want to return as his coffee bean roasting business was domiciled here on the North Coast..

-Comforto on a one year "pillow" contract..pass..

-Soler / Avisail... are both interesting.. and both RHH's.. Both are corner OF'ers. Both know the AL Central.. Ths is a fit..the question will come down to dollar$ and $enSe..

There are others..

The FA Shortstop situation seems to have two tiers..

The uber tier (10 years, $ 300+ Million): Corey Seager and Carlos Correa

The next tier (about a third less on AAV): Trevor Story, Javier Baez, Marcus Semien

Can you imagine how much whining and crying would be going on if the Indians held onto Lindor.. with the season he had?.. WHY DIDN'T CleFO TRADE HIM WHEN HE STILL HAD VALUE !! would be the crying being perpetrated.. Sometimes..you can't satisfy anyone.. Lindor in NYC is a good thing for CleFO and for Lindor..

Thoughts?..
