Whether it’s exploring the trade market or using the mid-level exception, the only two paths to help-now additions, Altman’s primary objective is clear.

In more specific terms, given the lack of playmakers, the Cavs would be wise to search for someone to take shot-creation pressure off Garland and Sexton. Indiana Pacers feisty backup floor general TJ McConnell and Los Angeles Lakers rugged defender Alex Caruso are on Cleveland’s free agency target list, sources maintain.

But the Cavs simply need a few more capable rotation players. The roster needs a better balance of youth and experience. Pacers swingman Doug McDermott will get consideration. Spencer Dinwiddie is likely out of Cleveland’s price range. Lauri Markkanen is an intriguing restricted free agent who may need a change of scenery but would create a funky logjam at power forward. Would Dallas choose cap space over Tim Hardaway Jr., letting him walk? New Orleans’ cap room situation -- and desire to make a splash in hopes of helping Zion Williamson -- could lead to potential restricted free agent Josh Hart failing to get a qualifying offer.

I don't think Alex Caruso is going from competing for rings in Los Angeles to competing for draft picks in Cleveland...

On paper he's a very good fit, but the money it would cost to get him to come here is ridiculous.

Agreed. Think Kevin Ollie or Bimbo Coles, for you Cavs historians. In other words, not worth the price tag. We don’t need a big name, just someone to give us a solid 10-15 mins. a game.

I'd rather just try to find some high floor players in the draft. Some upperclassmen in the second round.

agreed. That’s the smart play versus overpaying some veteran, like Caruso or McConnell.

Source doesn't seem too legit on this one
I truly think all options are on the table, including a sign & trade of Allen, if they draft Mobley. The Cavs are probably gauging his market as they’ve done with Sexton. We know Charlotte & Dallas would be interested in Allen. Possibly Miami as well.

I think that makes sense. Of course, I also think it will be very difficult to maximize potential for both Allen and Mobley if on the same team.

I’m not sure that pairing works in the modern NBA, like it would have 10-15 years ago.

Could be that Mobley is making them want to trade Allen, or they could be asking around to see how much other teams would offer Allen on a contract to get some idea where to start negotiations at?

Talking to other teams is what GM's do. They probably have over 100 conversations for every trade that goes through. Koby wouldnt be doing his job if he didnt talk about Allen to other teams.

Yup, it would be absolutely irresponsible for Koby to not gauge Allen's market, regardless of how much he likes Jarrett. And although Allen and Sexton are completely different players, it would be wise to get a sense of what a potential sign-and-trade market for a promising young player entering RFA looks like in the event that we hang onto Collin through the upcoming season.

I'd rathet sign allen even overpay him. Getting mobley(fingers crossed) would be good to both their developments, and allen's contract would be off the books once mobley is up for an extension. Also, would love to see a mobley-allen frontcourt, 2 7-footers guarding the paint.

After we received pick #3 in the lottery, and assuming that the draft goes Cade, Green as expected, I have had a hard time seeing how Mobley helps us win more next year.

We already have centers Allen and Hartenstein (if we pay them), and PF's Love, Nance, Wade and Kabengele (who had some good moments at the end of the season.) We have skill and depth with our big men already (admittedly they need to be healthy.)

Now, I am not saying Mobley isn't the best talent. I just can't see Altman drafting him if his job depends on 35 wins next year. It is possible he may have some trades lined up to trade Nance and/or Love if we draft Mobley but I think Suggs is the most NBA ready to contribute on day 1, unless Cade falls to us.

So if it is Suggs or Mobley and Altman wants Suggs, a trade with Toronto makes sense.
