'Free the birds': Orioles fans walk out in protest
Associated Press

BALTIMORE -- Nearly a thousand disgruntled Orioles fans walked out of Baltimore's game against Detroit en masse on Thursday, culminating a demonstration aimed at team owner Peter Angelos.

A majority of the protesters wore black T-shirts that read "FREE THE BIRDS," and many carried signs that had "For Pete's Sake" on one side and "Free the Birds" on the other.

They filled parts of six sections in the upper deck, then walked out in the middle of the fourth inning at precisely 5:08 p.m. -- in honor of former Oriole stars Brooks Robinson (No. 5) and Cal Ripken (No. 8).

We need to do this..

They are in a division with the Yanks and the Red Sox. They are sht out of luck for the next 60 years. I can't stand MLB.

And i won't support it unless it fixes itself.

The Indians don't deserve this. Too much promise and at least they have a clear cut game plan for getting back on track.

The Browns will deserve this if we find ourselves at 1-7 mid- season. That team gets WAY too much support from the city of Cleveland given the amount of times they've let us down in big games, and worse yet, failed to contend at all.

A clear cut game plan? And that's been what? Goin from the 90's Dynasty Indians to the one that loses near 100 games? Joke..

At least the Browns are spending money and seem to give a shit even though we suck.

The Indians management deserves this not the players.

While I agree with cdt and it sickens me to see what the owner is doing to the Indians, I agree with Clevaland56 even more. Major League Baseball is completely broken. Nearly all the time the teams with the highest salaries win, and small market teams can't compete. I've washed my hands of that league.

Funny cause after last year Shapiro was named exec of the year by The Sporting News. And for good reason, he has developed the deepest team in recent Indians history.

This team is going to hit the cover off the ball for YEARS.

Our problem is the bullpen. We caught lighting in a bottle last year with the bullpen. Everyone contributed and everyone performed consistently. Check those same guys stats this year. Noone's close. Shapiro let them go at the right time.

I'd be walking out on Dolan Jigo..Shapiro can't help Dolan's a tightwad..

Like Bill Parcells once said..

"Don't complain about the dinner if you don't plan on letting me do the grocery shopping."

If you think the Indians fans should do this, you are spoiled. We last made the playoffs in 2001. We won 93 games - 93 freaking games - as recently as 2005.

You want to know what Baltimore has gone through??? Nine straight losing seasons. That's right. No more than 81 wins since 1997. That's when they lost to us in the ALCS. Not even sniffing the playoffs since then.

These things are done when the fans simply can't take it anymore. I mean, seriously...you think being Browns fans would allow Cleveland to not think much of the Indians sucking. It seems like only one Cleveland team at a time is allowed to be good (right now, it's the Cavs).
