Game #49| Cavs vs Lakers| Sunday Feb. 8th, 2009| 3:30pm [ET]

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lakers are simply more talented then everyone else

As one of the biggest Cavs fans you will find, I must admit something that hurts yet is the truth; the Lakers have more talent and are a better team then the Cavs.

After this game, it's now painfully obvious that Ferry needs to pull the trigger if we want any hope in even getting back to the finals, nonetheless competing in them against LA. This isn;t one of this "The sky is falling" threads, and I hope people don't take it as such, because I still feel we are a very good team and at times a great team. But as I watch the Lakers more and more, I am starting to realize how deep and truly talented they are.

First I'd like to start with Gasol. This guy is one of the most underrated bigs in the game today, and can pretty much do it all. I do agree that he isn't the "toughest" big man around, however, his finesse game more then makes up for any lack of toughness. Then you have Odom, who when he wants to play, is simply a stud. People forget that the Clips were on a path of building an entire franchise around this guy when he came into the league, and he was one of the best all around talents. Well, its safe to say after watching him against Boston and now Cleveland, he's got his mojo back. Then you look at their main role players, in Fisher (deadly vet), Walton (versatile and very smart), Ariza (an athletic nightmare for most teams and great defender), Sasha/Farmar (best gaurd combo off any bench by far in NBA.)

And that leaves us with Kobe. Even though I am not a fan at all, and in fact (much like the Yankees, Steelers, ANY Boston team, and Michigan) can't stand him, the guy is flat out the most clutch performer in the NBA today hands down not even close. LeBron may be faster, bigger, stronger, and more ahtletic, but Kobe hits the biggest shots at the biggest moments of the biggest games. Even if nobody on this board would admit as much, we all know who we'd want with 10 seconds to go down 1 to have the ball. Kobe. (Hopefully, LeBron can pick up his outside game in the years to come, and then surpass Kobe as Most clutch. But right now, it's 1) Kobe 2) everyone else.)

This is scary considering I didn't even mention Bynum, who when healthy, can also be a HUGE presence inside, and certainly brings some toughness/defense to the Lakers.

The Lakers are longer, bigger, faster, and more talented then anyone in the NBA, and it's not even close if you look at them 1-12 compared to everyone else. We would be the next in line, followed by the Spurs and Celts IMO. But the Lakers as of right now, are the best team in the NBA and that isn't very debatable after going on the road back to back and taking care of business against us and Boston.

That all being said, I'd like to see us make a move after a camby type big, someone who could block shots, grab boards, BOX OUT (cough cough andy, JJ in the 3rd qtr), and bring an inside presence. I'd also like with a Mike Miller type wing man, although he wouldn't be my first choice. It didn't help having Delonte and Kinsey out since they are both very good defenders, and missing Sasha second half. I still have plenty of hope left for this season though, and I hope this game wakes up the entire organization to the reality that we are simply not where we want to be yet. With a mix of getting healthy, better focus in the 4th qtr of big games, a trade or two, and improving throughout the next 2-3 months, we still have a very good shot to make some major noise come May and June.

Let me know what you think, and if you disagree that the Lakers are the best team, then who do you think is, and why? I'd love to see all of your opinions. Thanks.

I'm helpless to do anything but agree. The lakers are bigger, faster, stronger...and now, more physical than the Cavs.

Without Bynum.

Sigh.

We have no inside game.If we don't get a big that can ACTUALLY POST UP then we don't have that good of a chance to win the ship. This is one of our biggest problems.

Maybe something good will come from this. Huge trade that makes the Cavs extremely better? :dunno:

Wow you guys.

*Looks up to see if the sky is falling*

I can't believe I ever called LA soft.

Then I got to witness Anderson Varejao and Ben Wallace tonight. :thumbdown

I don't know what we need more, another guy who can create his own shot, or a big man with some balls that won't get pushed around by LAMAR FREAKIN ODOM.
