Keys to the Game
  • This goes without saying, but a win would be huge in the quest for the #1 seed. Time to take advantage of another team's injuries.
  • A win here would also give the Cavs a 30-8 conference record and push the Celtics to 32-6. That could also be a big factor in any tiebreaker scenario.
  • Keep Rondo from penetrating. Make him a jump-shooter.
  • Jump on them early, don't let up, keep the crowd out of the game. The Cavs have reverted back to last season a bit with some poor third quarters lately... time to clean that up.
  • We have these guys one more time at our house on April 12th, so a loss wouldn't necessarily be the end of the world. But a win would be absolutely HUGE. It would also tie the franchise record for most road victories (22).

lol @ moore and davis's picture. Hahaha.

Mikki Moore is like the Predator after being lost in the woods and starved for several months.

This game, more than any other, could really decide whether we have home court advantage throughout the playoffs and even in the EC. Win, and home court in the EC is looking very likely. Lose, and the race tightens. In addition to that, I feel like if we win, we have a very good chance at home court even in the Finals if we were to play the Lakers. The Lakers have a decently tough schedule, especially next week, and lots of road games to end the year. On the other hand, we have this game, @ PHX, and @ ORL as the only games left on the road against what could be defined as "good" teams. The rest of the games are at home, and obviously no one expects us to lose any of those games.

Win and I think we can finish 68-14. I see the Lakers losing at least 3 games from here to the end of the season. Their POR-HOU-SAS stretch in 3 days next week, all on the road, could be brutal.

Awesome game thread. I'm so pumped for this game about 32 hours ahead of time...

I think we can take this one. I'm sure of it, in fact.

Some stuff from the Celtics camp. It doesn't sound like KG will make a surprise appearance, if he hasn't practiced and has recently progressed to "not limping." They would be crazy to bring him back early.

From the Boston Globe Blog (SOURCE)

Garnett is expected to miss Friday night's home game against Cleveland.

From the Globe game article: (SOURCE)

Rivers on Cleveland's acquisition of Joe Smith: "He's a terrific player, he's a veteran, and he's been through things. Mikki [ Moore] has not been through playoffs and played a significant amount of minutes, but Mikki is a gifted player - he's long and athletic and he shoots. We're happy with what we got. We felt we had to get Joe or Mikki. We couldn't be left out in the cold. Whichever one [was available] first, we got. Joe is a tough defender; Mikki is longer. Joe, just from experience, could be a better defender, but we hope to educate Mikki."

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Kevin Garnett has been spending extra time at the Celtics' training facility in Waltham, Mass., and appears to be making progress toward returning from a knee strain, according to coach Doc Rivers.

"[Garnett] was on the treadmill [Tuesday], and I thought he was walking for the first time without a different gait," Rivers said before the Celtics took a 115-111 win over the Nets last night. "And I don't know what that means, but it's got to be better than the other day, when he was limping. I told him, 'You've been here for eight hours, and what are you doing here all day?' "

Paul Pierce after the Nets game last night: (SOURCE)
The only problem was what the C’s, who improved to 16-4 without Garnett over the last two seasons, miss the most when Garnett is out: New Jersey shot at much too pure a pace for comfort.

Tomorrow night’s opponent at the Garden - Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland - isn’t likely to come up short in the same situation.

“If we play like this against Cleveland, then we’re not going to be happy when we go back to the locker room,” captain Paul Pierce [stats] said of his team’s defensive shortcomings.

From NBA.COM: (SOURCE)
Having not played since Sunday's loss to the Pistons, the Celtics had two days of practice to help the new guys learn the system. But since Rivers hasn't been happy with his team's defense, there wasn't much practice time dedicated to offense.

In giving up 111 points to the Nets Wednesday, the Celtics showed that defense is still an issue. And that's where Moore feels he needs the most work.

"I've got to learn the defensive calls," he said after the game. "I know the basic setup on defense and offense, but I've just got to learn how to call them out. That's the big thing for [this team]. It's the communication part."

...

Both Marbury and Moore are learning two positions in the Celtics' system. Marbury is being used as both a point guard and shooting guard. When he spells Rondo, he's handling the ball. And he's a big upgrade in that department over House. But Rivers has also used Marbury and Rondo together, with Marbury playing off the ball.

...

The Celtics are now 2-1 with both Marbury and Moore. While the playoffs are still six weeks away, the pair will get a postseason preview when the Cavaliers come to town Friday. With Cleveland two games ahead in the loss column atop the Eastern Conference, the game is close to being a must-win if the Celtics want a shot at home-court advantage throughout the playoffs again.

With Garnett still out with a strained right knee, Boston's margin of error is small, making the adjustment period (especially defensively) for Marbury and Moore a critical goal.

Mikki Moore is not cool enough to represent the Predator.

This game is huge though, we haven't surpassed the Celtics yet and we need to show we can beat them on their court.

So what are Vegas' odds that KG rolls out in a wheelchair and miraculously plays (ala Paul Pierce)

FYI, the Predator was used for Mikki Moore's image strictly because of the hair resemblance. In no way do I think he is anywhere nearly as cool or badass. Just wanted to clear that up.

On the other hand, I do feel that the Sta Puft marshmallow man is a clear representation of Glen Davis. If you look at their facial features, overall pudginess, and the seemingly homosexual behavior (Sta-Puft man is dressed like a sailor with no pants on), the similarities are quite striking.

No I understood the hair reference with Mikki, I actually wonder if there are any pics of his scuffle with Sasha.

And here's a video of Glen

If Josh had a meaner look on him, I think you could see the resemblance a little more. I think "Predator" would actually be a good nickname for Cribbs.

We better be up for this game. I hope they know how important it is. This could determine everything in the East.

Excellent job C-Dub and yeah I totally got the Mikki/Predator analogy, in now way we're you calling that 7 foot stiff bad ass...if anything you were saying he had the same horrible aesthetics without the cool factor to balance it out.

Props on that and Stay Puft for Big Bitch Glen Davis.

I am so AMPED for this game right now, you have no idea.

Excellent preview Chief.

If we want to silence the nay sayers this is the game to do it. On a visitor's court we've struggled against elite teams, like the Lakers, Magic, and Boston. Time to prove to everybody that in a seven game series we can win on an opponent's court, home field advantage or not.

The opening game of the season we were cruising for the first half of basketball, but we shot ourselves in the foot to give the Celtics that game. I don't see us making the same mistake twice. No KG? Don't care, a win is a win no matter how the Boston Globe will spin it.

I'm predicting a Cavs win here, right now we're just better and can close out tough games as of late too. Plus, Joe Smith's pearly whites will be too distracting for any Celtic ballhandler. Sparkle, sparkle.
