Game Thread 2018-19 Season Game #71 | Cleveland Cavaliers vs Detroit Pistons | March 18th, 2019

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Absolutely one of the worst wins this team could have had this year. Why was Cedi playing? The Bulls and Suns are playing tonight and we really could have made up ground and before the idiots come rushing in saying it doesn't matter and blah, blah rat tails need development but when we get pushed 4 spots down from 3rd to 7th if someone leap frogs us it will matter. I WANT every single one of our coaches and FO gone, complete imbeciles.
This draft is Zion or bust. As long as the Cavs don't win enough to move out of the bottom 3 -- they're fine. If they keep winning like this, well, that would be an issue.

Btw, if the Cavs are truly tanking, the guy they need to bench is Colin "buckets" Sexton.

Sexton is beginning to look like a poor man's Kyrie as a scorer. Would've looked nice next to LeBron, but that wasn't happening as LeBron wanted to play for that title contender out in LA...
Rookie Cavaliers with 6 straight 23 point games:

Ron Harper
Austin Carr
Colin Sexton

Notice which player isn't on that list, either... he isn't exactly playing like a poor man's version.

Sexton's been killing it lately, but let's not pretend he's on Kyrie's level just yet. His metrics -- TS%, PER, RPM, Box +/- are still miles behind Kyrie, including his rookie season. This late season growth spurt has been fun and let's just hope it carries over to next season -- albeit, with a little more passing.

I don't mind Sexton or Cedi playing well. Today's group was fairly handcuff. Stauskas got hot though and help to win the game. Stauskas usually is good for the tank and we couldn't help that Blake Griffin was out for this game. It also didn't help that Thon Maker wasn't playing defense and let Chriss look like he actually belongs in the league.

Doesn't make a shred of difference in terms of Zion - worst 5 teams all have an equal 14% chance.
It’s actually the worst 3 teams with the equal 14% change. Teams 4 and 5 are at 12.5% I believe.

Ideally we stay in the third spot and don’t get jumped by the Bulls.

But in terms of getting Zion, it is absolutely no better or worse to be worst record, 2nd worst record, or 3rd worst record.

14% 14% 14% 12.5% 10.5% 9.0% 7.5% 6.0%.

People working themselves up into an absolute frenzy over possibly slipping from 14% to 12.5% are hilarious. From 1 in 7 to 1 in 8. Big deal.

People wanting to bench Cedi and Sexton to tank with TT love and Nance out is like our best possible scenario.

They need to play well, which would indicate they don't have to jettisoned and replaced right away which slows down the team moving forward.

We tanked for 4 straight years last time and only got 1 all star to show for it. Those 4 years were hard to watch. We watched for kyrie to dazzle and lead us to a higher pick.

I'll take a team playing hard and improving everyday.

As for Sextons passing, let's see how it looks next year when he has had a full year with us working on his scoring. That was always perceived as his weakness. Build that up then take care of the rest when he have a better team.

Suns have been tanking for 5 years or so, and what do they have to show for it? Number 1 pick from last year, but not best player, and the worst record in the NBA still.

For those that think tanking helps, it doesn't. I am beginning to think Morant is the 2nd best in this draft, but that isn't always the case.

Many of us were down on Sexton, but now that he has Knight handling 60-70% of the pg duties, Sexton has become the 4th or 5th best rookie although taken 8th.

Point is you cant come in with a tanking mentality, it no longer is a huge difference in ping pong balls, at leads you to becoming a Suns team that cant develop talent because they have a losing mentality.

I would love to stay at 3rd to ensure a top 6th pick I believe, but at the end of the day there really is only one difference maker and we are guaranteed to have a 14% chance at Zion no matter where we finish 1st to 5th, so fuck it, lets win and create some momentum next year with a young core of Sexton, Cidi, Zizic, Nwaba (I hope) and the rookie lottery and Houston pick.

We might get more young pieces for our expirings, or we might try and create cap room and keep Love to help develop, not sure, but with zero bad long term contracts left, we have allot of options and a small young core. Right now Sexton is looking capable of making an all star game if we keep developing, maybe we get lucky and get zion and he turns into a future HOF, but short of that, I doubt 2nd through 5th pick makes a ton of difference sadly, luck is as important as anything in the lottery.

Really good post, although percentage for 1st pick falls to 12.5% for 4th and 10.5% for fifth. In any case there's at least an 86% chance we don't get Zion.
