Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #10 | Cleveland Cavaliers @ Philadelphia 76ers | Nov 12th, 2019

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cedi is invisible most nights...I agree...thought he could be a difference maker but seems to be just a bench player

He is a difference maker. Team performs much better when he's on the floor. Who knows why. He's not a star but he has a impact on the game even if it doesn't show up in the box score.

Yeah, Cedi is 4th in VORP and 6th in WS so far this year. He's definitely not hurting us. Not helping us a ton either, but he's not hurting us.

Did you watch the postgame interviews of Clarkson and Sexton?

1) Clarkson is asked who on the team is the best person to take a late 3 point shot. He first says Love, then adds himself to that. He then spends a few moments thinking it over and says "yeah, either me or Kevin." Now the thing is that Sexton is actually a better three point shooter than either of those guys, and it's not even remotely close between Sexton and Clarkson himself. Last year, Sexton shot .402 from three, and Clarkson shot a lousy .324. This year, Sexton is shooting .422, and Clarkson is at .298. There's no way Clarkson isn't aware of those numbers, but he very clearly thought about the question and didn't even mention Sexton. Even though he's probably the best three point shooter on the team. Obviously not a lot of respect there.

2) They then show an interview of Sexton, who is asked what went wrong in the last few minutes. He says that they got away from their offensive gameplan late, and just stopped running the sets that had worked. Of course, that coincindes with Clarkson getting out back in the game with Sexton. And for those of us who believe that the offense doesn't seem to run right when Clarkson is in there because he's just freelancing...Sexton may agree with that.

You can basically tell what Clarksons IQ is just by looking at his dumbass tattoos, should show him some tape from the 2018 playoffs when he had historically one of the worst shooting performances ever.

Well the Cavs had many chances to pull this game out, but it was tough..they had some bad sets and some one on one play that didn't work and I knew at some point Philly would go to Embid and he'd get a close shot..
Too bad they didn't double him on one set and he just backed TT down low.
TT was very vocal..hadn't seen him angry like that in a while.
I will say more later but this loss irritated me because this team is better than I thought it was , even this early in the season..

I came away pretty encouraged from this game. Just looking at Phillys starting lineup is demoralizing because of how big and long they all are, and I did not expect to see any type of consistent offense because of how they play defense. But we ended up with a shot at the end to win it despite looking pretty sloppy so overall they had another really impressive effort.

Should have gone the hack-a-Simmons in the final 2 minutes
Yeah, good point, that should have been a no-brainer.

My gripe is that neither Love or Clarkson followed Love's missed shot. They both drifted backwards from the 3-point line after the shot was released. The ball hit the back rim and rebounded beyond the free throw line. Either Love or Clarkson would have had an uncontested rebound if they simply followed the shot. There was no need to get back on defense - the Sixers had the lead and would have held the ball if they got the rebound. If fact we would have had to foul them immediately. Even if they make both free throws we get the ball with five seconds to go and down three points.

But Love actually backpedaled after releasing the shot. He said he thought it was in. Clarkson drifted back a step or two, just watching and hoping. If Clarkson follows the shot he gets the rebound at the foul line with 4-5 seconds left and a chance to hit a floater in the lane or take it to the rim and get fouled. Same for Love. I was flabbergasted. I thought every high school player knows that when you're down by a point and shooting with the clock running down everybody needs to crash the offensive glass. If the opponent gets the rebound, foul immediately. For NBA veterans to be backpedaling in that situation and becoming spectators with the game on the line is inexcusable. I hope Beilein makes a big point of that. Also, everybody should have been reminding each other before the inbound to crash the glass.

This game should have been won even after the Love missed shot.

This team is a defensive big and a scoring wing away from being really intriguing. Keep hoping Cedi will step forward and make a claim at the latter, but it doesn't seem to be happening.
I have reserved my comments on Cedi. While he is a favorite of most, I don't see impact player in him.
He's a role player , he might develop further but I don't see that really impacting the team a ton.

Even though most of us never made it beyond HS, it's the same...in the final few minutes, defense gets more aggressive, it's harder to get shots off, and you get tight and make mistakes. You saw that with the game last night as the Cavs got tight and failed to run an offense at the end of the game. A loss like this is actually a much better teaching device at this stage anyways. You learn to deal with pressure, you get a moral victory and know if you clean things up you can compete, and also you stack losses for the spring. Great outcome even if it hurt in the moment. Perspective is helpful.

I wanted that win so badly, but seeing them fight against a team that was bigger than them like that, and was even leading by two possessions late in the 4th was beautiful. BELEIN FOREVER

and man TRISTAN?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is he really going to be shooting 3s? Is he? LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO

I have to say that I am a LITTLE BIT discouraged by the fact that EVERY SINGLE CAV ON WHO GOT FLOOR-TIME AT THE END did something stupid, whether it was dribbling into traffic, takes bad shots, losing your man, screwing up an inbounds-pass. And it wasn't just the young guys - I can FORGIVE it, in the young guys. It was also the supposed LEADERS of the team. So, if there is something to be learned from this, it's basically PLAY SMART BASKETBALL - don't dribble into traffic, don't take bad shots, keep track of your man on D, make the smart pass. You know - play basketball the RIGHT way. But I don't know if dumb, selfish players can learn to play basketball the right way. That's why I'm anxious to see the next phase of the rebuild - sans Clarkson, and sans TT, presumably.

Have to say, though - that play by TT, where he dribbled up the court and then launched a 40-footer with 4 seconds left on the shot clock was a SPECIAL kind of stupid. That might have been the worst basketball play in the history of basketball plays.

Nance leaving Embiid for that last possession on the Sixers makes you realize why he has not been good. Over helps way too much. Last season may have poisoned him because he had to pick up after everyone.

He had two turnovers in that late game sequence because he was dribbling out of control

He was pushed to the ground. Those weren't careless turnovers. Sexton is going to be one of the best at drawing fouls in the league in 2 years. Refs need more tape on him.
