Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #14 | Cleveland Cavaliers @ Miami Heat | Nov 20th, 2019

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Duncan Robison is like a year older than Cedi

Kendrick Nunn who everyone here seems to want is only a little younger then Cedi. Heat found some guys to fill in who are older but still have talent. If only Cavs could find a 24 or 25 year old Center on the streets and turn them into something useful.

At least Colin woke up a bit scoring-wise.

He is going to have nightmares about Butler for a while. Butler terrorized him in both these Heat games this week.

Allowing the second unit to come in at the start of the half got Butler out when our starting backcourt came back in. At least it was some sort of adjustment by Beilein, even though I would have rather seen him try putting a wing at SG and rotate in Sexton and Garland for each other.

Guys, the Warriors will have an 86% chance of not picking 1st.

Steph will be 33 in 2021

Klay will be coming off major knee surgery

They have no bench

Draymond has regressed.

They are gonna be old, not young. And look how much things change in the NBA. I wouldn’t be too worried about them. They will be good but KD covered for them a lot.

Thanks a lot. They'll win 55 games next year now.

Tough game. Gotta see growth. Defense is very tough at the moment. Can't stop these good teams. Hard games like this got the team prepared for and when Kevin came back they balled out. As long as the guys don't break and adjust to the adjustments, they will be fine, but they don't know how to beat traps or protect the ball in the middle of the floor right now.

Lots of work to do, but I thought they fought better today and KPJ was better. That reviewed call should have not been called. That was a flop

KPJ growing every game. 3 ball looking pretty good. No hesitation. Catch and shoot young fella. He has gotten some trust from his teammates. They are giving it to him in ball handling situations right now. Fun to watch him

Need Windler bad. Whole offense has stalled because guys aren't making good enough passes and the turnovers have been devastating.

Curry will age well. Was always a shitty defender. And shooting doesn't go away with age.

Klay may not be the same defender but his shot won't just disappear.

They will have which ever young guys stick out this year with experience off the bench. Plus what ever they can turn Russell into.

They got a newer younger Model of Draymond with Paschall.

I hate the Warriors and would love nothing more then to see them crumble. But that likely isn't going to happen for another few years. They are tanking, seeing which young talent can contribute next year and show casing their best trade piece Russell.

I think you are overestimating how the rest of the NBA has caught up. Heck they caught up in 2018 but KD was still there. KD, Iggy and Livingston are losses that can’t be overcome by a rookie and aging stars. The NBA isn’t as weak as it was either. GS will be in the mix if those guys come back but they aren’t the big bad anymore. Just another good team. Those shimmy’s sure look silly now.

This team had a 40 point lead on the Rockets at halftime or something like that. They are really good defensively and they are the best shooting team in the league now. It's crazy, but they gelled instantly and they are fantastic.

The biggest change is the shooting from distance they added. It's amazing what that does not only scoring wise but how it opens the floor for everyone. This game was busted open because of great shooting last night.

We have to see ball movement, and 19 assists is not getting it done.. IDK, but it seems Sexton has become less interested in team play last few games. If we are expecting Windler to save the offense, it's going to be a long winter..

Sometimes I get the feeling that the type of players teams like the Heat, Spurs and others like to aquire , the Cavs have little interest in..scrappy types that press you or are have a ton of energy and just ball.

Beilein made a comment postgame that they are considering making changes with the starting lineup which means one or more current starters could start coming off the bench.

I would do:

Dellevadova, Sexton, Osman, Love, Thompson

Garland, Porter Jr., Clarkson, Nance Jr., Zizic

Knight can come in for whichever guard is have a really bad time on a game to game basis.

For all of the criticism of Sexton, he is clearly better than Garland at this point. He is also being asked to do something he's never done in his life - learning to play without the ball in his hands a lot, plus learning a new offensive system. He has regressed at times this year but I chalk that up to the learning curve he is going through. They still want him to learn to play off ball and that I why I would pair him with Delly playing the point for the time being.

Garland - besides his struggles, looks like he has lost some confidence in the one thing he was rated so highly for and that is his shooting. I noticed in a game about 10 days ago where he went through a bad shooting stretch and then got to the line for free throws. He missed them both and you could tell he was still upset about missing a shot just before that. Moving him to the bench would take some pressure off of him while still getting him a good amount of minutes.

I've never thought of Porter Jr. as a 3 and want him in a SG position asap with this roster. He's another one that needs to learn how to play off the ball.

The rest of the league didn’t “catch up”. KD and Iggy left, Klay got hurt, and the Lakers, Clippers, and Nets all lucked into 2 stars. But the Warriors are in a great position to reload, with a lottery pick and whatever they get for Russell. And they have drafted extremely well over the last 8 years or so. It’s good to be the Warriors. They will be back winning 60 games in a few years.

No no no, I mean they caught up to the warriors WITHOUT KD. In 2016 they were a 73 win juggernaut. By 2017/2018, they were good, but not "best team ever" good without Durant. And they never will be again. They will be a 50-55 win team, with a chance in the playoffs, but not a clear favorite or even a favorite by any means.

In April 2021 you will have

Steph: 33
Klay: 31
Dray: 31

Not "Old" but these guys won't be 25-27. And that matters. Especially given the injures. I suppose we will have to wait and see, but I think the so called "Warrior dynasty" is over.

Yeah I totally agree. They don't stick to the plan when the defense gets ratcheted up. The team is just taking turns instead of generating good looks for others. I don't blame Sexton too much because he is seeing other guys just turn it over whether it is Garland or Cedi, so he takes it himself. I think he has been good getting it to Love and TT, but not to the other 2 guys.

The problem comes if they are not learning from film. There just aren't enough practices to continue drilling it. They need to learn from film.

This is still a major work in progress, and I think there is not a reason to hit the panic button. We are seeing flashes from Porter and Garland, and Sexton has grown defensively. There are things to be positive about, but TT and Love are not covering for the young guys mistakes like they were, and the defense has slipped and/or been negated.

The schedule has been brutal as well. They could use some games against easier opponents to get their legs, but that is not on the Horizon yet. I'm not panicking yet by any means though. Somebody does need to hit some 3's. This team has no spacing and I do think Windler is one of those glue guys that hits shots and keeps the ball moving. We have seen the ball movement really energize this team, but they have moved away from it lately. All these last 5 games have had really poor assist totals. When they were winning they were playing pretty freely, now they all look like they are playing tight.

If Duncan Robinson is the outcome of Belein coaching then I can't wait for Windler to come back.

I think Belein is the right coach for both Sexton and KPJ because the improvement is real. Weren't getting a lot of "good" overall as a team. Liked Nance in the beginning where he had all but 10 of the team's points. Like to see him shooting more. Kevin Love was struggling against them. The Cavs need a big that can move and score and more wings. I think they're straight otherwise.

But man I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate all this losing to the Heat. It's gotta stop sometime. Not even LeBron can make it happen.
