Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #23 | Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics | Dec 9th, 2019

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The guards are so, so, so bad. Garland is only playing because he was the 5th pick. That's it. As of right now, he doesn't have the actual skills or talent to be on an NBA court. There's NOTHING there atm.
I see it backwards. They drafted him as a lead guard, but isn't allowed to lead. The roster is ill fit as I said preseason coupled with a rookie coach who is feeling it out. Just leads to few wins.

This problem is squarely on the front office. They overdrafted undersized players two years in a row and added nothing in free agency.

It just doesn't seem smart to draft Garland after you already had Sexton. To do so with Clarkson on the roster and they didn't look to dump him asap made it alot worse. It took a couple seasons for Lillard and McCollum to start together. If that was the blueprint for what Sexton and Garland could be, they didn't look to hard to how Portland got them to where they are.

Right now, they are overplaying Sexton and Garland together. I don't think either are going to develop into the players they need to be playing so much with each other. They really should be playing 12 minutes together and 18 minutes by themselves.

But what about him screams lead guard? He pounds the rock too long and can't blow past anyone, which is a terrible combo. Either get the offense moving or beat your man.

Right now, he's terrible.

He isn't ready to be a lead guard against starter. He is just too slow playing and reacting right now. He doesn't have the scoring punch to open up the rest of the offense with his vision.

The front office knew Clarkson was going to be a road block so they didn't want to put him in the second unit. Now they are stuck because they jump the gun starting him and have no real solution where it won't kill his confidence.

Either Garland or Sexton needs to come off the bench, just both two young and inexperienced to start together. We also need Porter to start and Jesus,Love has got to go. He is playing so poorly, no effort and he is killing any semblance of ball movement. Based on what has been reported over the past few days, hard to believe he isn’t one of the sources.

Gotta keep our eyes on the ball. Two top priorities this year are to save our draft pick (and preferably end up as high as possible) and stay under the tax line. IMO Clarkson wasn't able to be dumped preseason unless we wanted to take on a worse player with a worse contract or add a pick to him ourselves. He has to play now so we don't end up scoring in the 50s for full games. This season was always going to be a shit show and next year will be painful, too. It is what it is. I think many people expected too much magic from Beilein and saw too much immediate promise in Garland.

I guess there's a difference between being bad, like the Hawks, and being bad like us wherein our young players are showing almost no promise at all.

The only team that seems slightly worse from a perspective of having less young talent who actually seem promising on a consistent basis is the Knicks.

Yea honestly the only team that feels more hopeless at this juncture is the Knicks. That's it. Their number 3 overall pick looks rough and they just traded their best young player so they could whiff in free agency instead.
