Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #32 | Cleveland Cavaliers vs Minnesota Timberwolves | Dec 28th, 2019

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nice when it's on the rookies to win or lose. Sloppy road wins are still road wins.

Not really a good win. We played horribly, and only really won because the Wolves couldn't hit wide-open shots.

Will henson break if he plays more than 15mins or something

Ok a bad win is still a win. A road win always sucks right ?

Cavs dominated the boards, but 13 assists to 28 turnovers is god-awful. Nobody had more than 3 assists, and nobody can hit a 3, either.

I’m pretty stoked that we won’t lose 73 games.

Yeah, that was ugly. The Cavs were 4-for-20 on 3's and turned the ball over 28 times. Brutal to watch, but with the Timberwolves missing Towns and Wiggins they had almost no offense whatsoever. Four of their starters came in averaging under 8 ppg! Only one of their starters scored in double figures - Covington with 14.

The Cavs did a nice job on the boards, though, outrebounding the Wolves 61-39. But they turned the ball over so often and also got 8 shots blocked, so in the end they were out-shot 93-77. You don't win many when the opponent takes 16 more shots, but in this case they did.

The T-Wolves missed 29 from downtown. They were embarassingly bad. I couldn't figure out why they kept jacking up 3's when the Cavs lead the league in points allowed in the paint.

Sexton had a bad game, going 5-for-17 with six turnovers and only one assist. He did get 7 rebounds, though. He does a good job of rebounding his own misses on floaters in the lane and scoring on the put-back.

Garland was 8-for-11 for 18 points with 5 turnovers, but was a +11 for the game. He was abused defensively by Jeff Teague, who drove on him relentlessly. The veteran led the Wolves with 18 off the bench. However, Garland hit two big shots, including a 3-pointer, in the final minutes to push the lead to six points. Those shots were huge.

Thompson had 12 pts and 15 boards. He surprisingly hit 8-of-10 free throws which was important in a close game. He also forced the Wolves to lose the ball out of bounds by battling on the offensive glass, giving the Cavs several extra possessions.

Delly stepped up with a team high +12 in only 13 minutes. He chipped in 6 pts, 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal while playing good defense. Newbie Nick Exum is no Jordan Clarkson, but he contributed with 8 pts and 3 boards in 16 minutes.

The Cavs almost choked it away at the end between turnovers, missed free throws (they missed 10 for the game), and dumb fouls. Every time it looked like they had the win sewed up they would turn it over or miss a free throw and then give up a quick 3-point play. But they held on to eke out an ugly win. Now they have two days to try and clean up the turnovers before they have to play the Raptors, who just beat the Celtics by 16 in Boston without Siakam, Marc Gasol, and Norman Powell.

"We've got pros," Raptors guard Kyle Lowry told ESPN. "We've got guys who don't care what people say. We've got guys that kind of just don't give a f--- and just go out there and work."

Beilein should put that quote up in the practice facility.

if it’s possible, I think the Cavs are worse at defending the 3-ball than the paint. We are competitive when opposing teams brick wide-open 3s en masse.

Yeah.... it's a win.

That's the post.

I like your game recaps a lot. Probably better than the majority of actual sports media out there.
