Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #34 | Cleveland Cavaliers vs Charlotte Hornets | Jan 2nd, 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Really should have let the Garland-Exum-KP-Nance-Henson line up play out the game, like a 90% chance we win if we did...

Disappointing loss to a bad team. The Cavs choked as Cedi and Love missed open 3's in the final two minutes while Graham made his 3 and it was from about five feet behind the line.

The encouraging thing was that Sexton was 4-for-7 on 3's after coming in having made 3 of his last 27 attempts. Maybe tonight's game will get him going from deep.

After scoring 59 points in the first half the Cavs were held to 47 in the second. The Hornets outscored the Cavs by 10 after halftime as Rozier went off again for 30 points this time.

Sorry but Kevin Love is awful defensively. Just really bad.

The Cavs best lineup included Garland (+17), Exum (+14 in 12 minutes), Nance (+11), Henson (+9), and Porter (+0). Nance and Henson altered a lot of shots and played great defense with their length, agility, and jumping ability. The Cavs starters were all -8 or worse except for Garland. Exum had 7 points, 5 boards, and 2 assists in only 12 minutes.

For once the Cavs committed more fouls than their opponent. The Hornets scored 9 more points from the foul line against the team that commits the fewest fouls in the league.

The Cavs shot 50.6% but only scored 106 points. They could have used Clarkson, even though Exum played well. The Cavs got out to 11-point leads a couple of times and threatened to separate but the Hornets always reeled them back in.

The announcers said the Cavs had 17 turnovers to 8 for the Hornets at one point, but the ESPN box score has them with 14 TO's. Either way it was an improvement over the 23 they gave up last game but not good enough to get a W.

That was definitely our best lineup last night, but how do you justify paying Love and Thompson the big bucks if they're on the bench when the game is being decided?

I'd like to see both of them traded as long as we get a developmental big coming back. Otherwise all we have is Nance, Henson, and Zizic at the 4/5.

Lately, the Cavs have won a couple of these games, where they had a nice lead whittled down at the very end. And they won some of them, barely. For a young team like ours, this type of game will allow them to learn how to execute properly at the end of game. They needed something like this, and maybe a couple more, if they ever want to become a contender ever again.

Cedi also made a 3 point shot a the end of the game, which you don't mention and literally missed one shot all night. Colin also missed shots in the last couple minutes as well.
I just don’t see Cedi as a major factor to why we lost the game. That was mainly Love and TT.

Frustrating as usual.

But I did like to see Garland recover from almost falling off the cliff. Like how Exum is fitting in.

There were some plays where Love must have been having 2014-15 flashbacks, when Sexton had the ball. Kev was not having it when he was open in the corner without the ball. Or when Sexton did pass, he went to Garland instead, LOL

Yes, Cedi hit a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left and the Cavs down by 5 points. All that did was make the final score closer because the Hornets coach was smart enough to call a time out before his team could throw away the inbounds pass.

Cedi missed one with the game tied and 1:26 remaining. That's the one he needed to hit. However, he did have a good game going 7-for-8 from the field. He and Love had it going on in the first quarter. I guess you could argue that if he didn't hit his first six shots the Cavs wouldn't have been close at the end.

Sexton hit a huge 3-pointer to tie the game at 103 with 2:30 to go. He did miss a driving layup in traffic with 11 seconds to go and the Cavs down by 3. It was a tough shot. I thought there should have been more passing in an attempt to get a clean look on a 3-pointer.
