This one was lost on the glass as the Thunder outrebounded the Cavs 52-33 and pulled down an incredible 18 offensive rebounds. Kevin Love had only 3 rebounds in 30 minutes. The Thunder made him look slow and old as he finished with only 12 points. As a result of all the offensive boards the Thunder took 11 more shots than the Cavs.
The other factor was the OKC bench, which outscored the Cavs' bench by a ridiculous 52-19. With Nance and Porter out the Cavs were short-handed and it really showed in the bench scoring. I suppose the good news is the Cavs' starters outscored the Thunder's starters by 18 points even with Love having a bad night.
Garland and Sexton combined for 50 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and only 3 turnovers. The young guards were really impressive other than for Garland's defense. Teams drive on him and simply shoulder him aside for easy layups. His offense is really coming along, though.
Denis Shroder, who is leading the NBA in bench scoring, put up 22 points in 31 minutes for a +19. The Cavs had no answer for him as he did whatever he wanted, going 9-for-15.
Cedi had a good game with 22 points on 7-for-13 from the field. TT was 1-for-7 and missed some point blank shots. As a team the Cavs only had 13 turnovers which is a big improvement.
Yeah, teams have been getting ahead of the Cavs and then easing up. When the Cavs make a little run the opponent wakes up and pushes the lead out to a safe margin again. It looks like the big brother and little brother are racing and the big brother isn't taking the little guy seriously. But when the little brother starts catching up the big brother just sprints back out to a big lead and puts in in cruise control again.
The Cavs are in no position to challenge a team that has Chris Paul, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Steve Adams, Dino Gallinari, Nerlins Noel, and Denis Shroder, especially since they traded Clarkson and with Porter and Nance out. I would have liked to see the Cavs play these guys without Exum but with Clarkson, Nance, and Porter. I'm sure the score would have been a lot closer.
