Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #37 | Cleveland Cavaliers vs Detroit Pistons | Jan 7th, 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not even sure we are seeing assistants talking out stuff with Sexton when he sits. He use to be glued next to Delly or one of the vets last year when he sat and you could see them pointing things out to him. Larry Drew had something to talk through with Sexton at every timeout.
Im wondering if many of his teammates and coaches are just exhausted of telling him the same things over and over and nothing changing. I saw during one timeout tonight that Brandon knight and delly were talking to him about something and he didn’t seem to be taking it well.

Our two starting guards played 71 minutes and went 11 for 31 with 5 assists and 3 turnovers.

And people get too caught up when the ball is going vs. when it isn't.

Whether he's making or missing shots, he plays the same way. Head down, go to the rim.

He's Jordan Clarkson. He's Derrick Rose. He's every other microwave guard who COMES. OFF. THE. BENCH.

I could see the coaches telling him completely different stuff from the vets. Alot of this staff are college coaches and not long term NBA coaches. Add to that Frye basically shitting on him on twitter after being a guy he would take alot of advice from last season, I could see him just being annoyed too at this point.

I've said this in other threads, when fox sports Ohio puts a microphone on Beilein and they play clips, he is usually just encouraging Sexton to keep scoring.

He's on a bad team.

he was on a good team here.

Aka he wouldn't be allowed to get up 17 shots in a game because players better than him had the ball.

That is so perfect. Rose isn't good off ball, and only looks good when he is a primary handler who can dominate the ball. Being the primary scorer off the bench is a great role for him. Being a complementary player to someone like LBJ is not.

We have two starting point guards. 29 assists tonight, 24 were from players that are not starting point guards..

To be fair. Sexton was not good passing tonight, but Garland was moving the ball, and also played great off the ball like the cut where Kevin found him under the basket.

I liked the way the ball moved around. Knight held it too much and so did Sexton, everyone else was great.

Sexton is playing too much lead guard. Seems like all the work they did getting him to play off the ball from last year is just gone. He even played better off ball early in the year.

Definitely not letting the game come to him.

The problem was a large portion of the line up that got us a lead was on the bench in the final 6 mins of the game because for some reason Sexton and Cedi just have to be on the court in crunch time

Cedi hit that three to retake the lead

Beilein lost the Cavs this game.
His robotic rotations, stubborn play calling and lack of in game adjustments(who to feed, play calling, TOs) are very evident and costing us games. If he was an unknown, people would be criticizing him left and right.

Yep, another choke job with Sexton dominating the ball late and not getting the shot to go down. Garland also missed a driving layup. Why are these guys trying to attack the rim on Drummond? Sexton actually tried a dunk that Drummond cleanly blocked.

And we get to see more post-game comments about what a great "learning experience" these come from ahead losses are.

The first half was fantastic - the Cavs put up 67 points with 21 assists. The second half? 46 points, 9 assists. What happened? Cedi had 14 points in the first half and 3 in the second. They should have gone to him more - he was having a great night.

The starting trio of TT, Sexton, and Cedi all were -17 to -22. The bench trio of Wade, Zizic, and Delly were +13 to +15. That group, along with Knight, looked really good. Big Z had 9 rebounds in 16 minutes and was a +15.

Brandon Knight is knocking the rust off as he starts to get some minutes. He had 13 points and 5 assists in 24 minutes. Keep playing him. If nobody wants to trade for him maybe we could use him as a backup next year.

The Cavs shot 49.4% overall and 45.9% on 3's. Unfortunately their defense just isn't there as the Pistons put 115 points on the board without three starters, including Blake Griffin. Derrick Rose tore through the Cavs like he did in the first meeting, scoring 24 points with 7 assists in 31 minutes. The Pistons should trade him to a contender now that Griffin is done for the year. Rose took over the game in the final minutes.

Love had a monster game, going 12-for-15 for 30 points with 9 rebounds and 4 assists. But he had four turnovers, including two more on long outlet passes that were either overthrown or stolen. I am so tired of watching him grab a rebound and heave the ball down the floor only to have it picked off or sail out of bounds. Stop it, already. They should put together a video of every bad outlet pass he's made this year, or which there are many. I think he'd be shocked and would stop forcing those passes.

Delly put on a clinic on how to run an offense with 9 assists in 19 minutes. At the end of the game Beilein brought him in to guard Derrick Rose. Drummond back picked him and Rose sailed into the lane where Thompson backed off to prevent the layup, so Rose hit a floater that put the Pistons ahead for good.

We really could have used Dante Exum or KPJ to get a bigger body on Rose, but with both of them out we had to go with Sexton, Garland, and Delly.

Take the team that played last night and add Exum, Porter, Nance, Henson, and Windler and that won't be a bad team. Not good, maybe, but not bad. It's nice to see guys that weren't getting much if any playing time like Exum (in Utah), Zizic, and Knight starting to contribute. Exum and Knight are trying to come back from multiple injuries. Zizic just turned 23 this week. They're all getting a chance to carve out a spot in this league, either with Cleveland or somewhere else.

I'm truly dumbfounded by the "robotic" substitutions comments.

Brandon Knight played like the entire 2nd quarter. Guy has barely touched the floor all year. Dean Wade played crucial 2nd half minutes.
