Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #38 | Cleveland Cavaliers vs Detroit Pistons | Jan 9th, 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Obviously, but everybody knows that's the main weakness in his game, his passing. Was trying to highlight that he actually did a lot to help the team win this game.

Passing is a weakness in Garland's game currently.

Passing is damn near an impossibility for Sexton.

I'm not joking when I say he's Tristan Thompson levels of bad at it. He has the most intense tunnel vision I've ever seen.

Garland sucks. He and sexton should just be let go

I thought he played alright. He was bad early and coach sat him down, when he came back in he played a lot better. The ball wasn't sticking with him as much, he was more decisive and he competed really hard. Would not have won the game without him to be honest, had a huge block and offensive rebound. This wasn't the game to be down on him.
What ? We have to be down on him every game. If it wasnt for sexton this is a playoff team

8th seed in the East is currently 16-20 so like your sarcasm is honestly probably close to reality lol.

If the Cavs swapped out Sexton for just an average guard who can shoot, say, Jordan Clarkson and then kept Thompson and Love.

Yea..they probably aren't far off lol.

He does this a lot, he tries to bring down Garland to elevate Sexton. He cant accept people dont think Sextons skill set (lack of tbh) and play style are worth investing in whereas Garlands are.

Really entertaining game as the Cavs trailed the whole way but rallied in the 4th to tie the game and send it to OT. Love hit a huge 3-pointer and it looked like the Cavs had it locked up until they botched another inbounds pass and gave Rose a chance to send it into double OT, but he missed an open 3-pointer.

Thompson had the game of his career with 35 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 45 minutes. The Cavs outscored the Pistons by 10 when he was on the floor. Just an amazing performance and he set dozens of screens and forced some missed shots by helping out on defense.

Garland had 20 points and 7 assists. However, Rose abused him on defense, driving at will and elevating to finish over Garland for one easy layup after another. Rose finished with 27 pts, 7 boards, and 5 assists. In crunch time Beilein brought in McKinnie to guard Rose and that was a big improvement over Garland and Delly, although Delly got some stops.

Drummond once again was a man among boys with 28 points and 23 boards in 49 minutes. The Pistons had 19 offensive rebounds, 10 by Drummond. You don't win many games when the opponent gets 19 offensive rebounds.

The Cavs had 24 assists and only 14 turnovers in 53 minutes. The assists could be higher but those aren't bad numbers, especially the 14 turnovers. They also did a great job in winning a close game which has been a huge problem. They almost choked this one away but fortunately Rose missed the open 3.

Now you want clarkson back ? Lol
I could see where next year sexton assumes a 6th man role and will be devastating going up against snt second teams

Plus 6 rebounds. 2 steals. 2 blocks
Look he is not a true pg obviously. That is just who he is. If he improves any bit on the passing end he will be fine and will find his role. Feels like some here want him to fail. I dont get it

I don’t think people want him to fail; I think they are just dismayed that he doesn’t seem to be LEARNING how to pass. He’s almost a parody of himself, at this point, and people find it almost funny.

I imagine that people appreciate his work ethic and his ability to score, but just don’t understand why he refuses to pass to open guys. It doesn’t seem to be that hard to do, so why doesn’t he DO it? Is he stupid?

Something like THAT, I imagine, is the thinking.

Sexton has strengths and weaknesses like any other player. He doesn't see the court as well as most and his mentality is to score. I see him as a shooting guard who is shorter than the average player at his position but who makes up for it with his burst and leaping ability. He was making layups over Drummond last night and he's developed a very effective floater as a response to getting his layups blocked.

I think that as teams watch film of him their bigs will start coming out to challenge the floater which will open up passing opportunities to baseline cutters and his assist totals will improve.

For example, Garland will dribble around a screen into the paint. If he doesn't have a path for a layup he'll pick up his dribble and get stuck in the lane looking to pass out of trouble before he gets called for three seconds. Sexton, OTOH, will put up the floater if he doesn't have a path to the rim and he usually makes the shot.

He and Garland both played pretty well defensively coming down the stretch. More hustle/aggression than they generally show on that end.
