Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #58 | Cleveland Cavaliers vs Philadelphia 76ers | Feb 26th, 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
28-1-2 is such a shameless line from Sexton. But >50% shooting so I shouldn’t complain.

This is horse shit. He had at least 2 assists in the last 2min. He had the 3 to Love and he drove way under the basket and got it to Nance.

Maybe they didn't count it. If he didn't get those whatever. Sometimes NBA won't count it for whatever reason

He really barely brought the ball up today unless he had an advantage in transition. Great off ball game from him tonight

Just stupid kvetching on my part. I didn’t even watch the game

The Cavs get a freebie against a team that came in 9-20 on the road and Simmons out, then lost Embiid after he played only 8 minutes. Ante Zizic was the Cavs' MVP for getting Embiid out of there with a sprained shoulder after colliding with Big Z. That collision probably won them the game.

The Cavs did a nice job of withstanding the Sixers late run to cut a 20-point Cavs lead to 7. But the Cavs were able to do what they've had a hard time doing this year - close out a win. Sexton came up big with 11 points in the 4th quarter and 28 in the game. The Cavs were +18 with Collin on the floor which led the team. After missing out on the fun during the big comeback win over Miami I had a feeling Sexton would be agressive tonight and he was. Those four turnovers were not great but he more than made up for it with the 28 points, about 7 of which came down the stretch when the Cavs were trying to maintain their lead and put the game away.

The Cavs defense held the Sixers (sans Embiid and Simmons) to 94 points and 40.4% from the field. They also outrebounded the Sixers 49-32 and dominated the scoring in the paint. The only negative was the 18 turnovers, but since the league average is 14.5 that wasn't too bad.

Nance had another good game with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Kevin Love was off, hitting only 3 of 9 shots, but he had a key 3-pointer late and played solid defense and chipped in 9 boards and a team leading 6 assists.

I was impressed with Shake Milton, who had 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists filling in for Ben Simmons. Not bad for a late 2nd round pick last year.

It was nice to see Delly get some court time, although it was only because Exum had a sprained ankle. Delly was a +3 in 25 minutes and went 5-for-5 from the field. Ante Zizic, in a rare sighting, stuffed the stat sheet with 6 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block in only 7 minutes. He also had a couple of fouls and turnovers, however.

Cavs have now won 4 of 5, but now we get some really good teams starting with a back-to-back against the Pelicans, who have won 8 of 12, and the Pacers (34-24) who have won 3 of 4. They got a break Monday with Jimmy Butler out for the Heat and again tonight with Embiid going down early.

Garland with only 1 assist. What’s up with that?

Yet no one mentions the 6 dimes from KPJ.

I am starting to believe with a good passing SG like KPJ and a passing sf and pf (like nance), that Sexton can work at the 1.

With so much emphasis on 3 point scoring in the modern NBA a hybrid pg that can score works as long as you construct the team correctly. (ofcourse a Giannis or Lebron a forward always fixes everything, lol)

Tonight is concerning obviously. BTW, at this point you are arguing both sides of the same issue.

Here's my argument: Two game win streak. Enjoy it.
I’d argue if his peak is around 25 ppg on 45-48% and at least 82 FT% with scrappy defense I don’t care all too much if he has zero court vision. That’s what Garland is for

Volume scorers get such a bad rep from NBA fans. But then we confuse nba players by putting a volume scorer in Kobe on a god like level because his scoring won titles.

Are volume scorers only good when they win titles? I think that is unfair. Look at prime JR Smith. He’d be good for 50 one night and 5 the next. Was his volume scoring crappy before the championship but after he was a great player? No. He was the same damn player. It’s the coaches job to coach coach with whatever tools they have. As of now, I know sample size is small but Sexton is being used perfectly

Totally agree. I forgot to mention Porter's six assists. It should have been more but a couple of his passes were so slick that his target didn't see them coming and fumbled them away. In one case the pass bounced off his teammate's head and went out of bounds.

Porter is an unbelievably good passer, especially for a 19-year-old. Nance is an excellent passer and Kevin Love also had six assists on a cold shooting night.

I don't know about Bickerstaff but Beilein wanted to see 300 passes a game. Assuming that's still the case then we don't need to get hung up on how many assists one particular player has since the ball should normally change hands 4-5 times on each half-court possession before a shot is taken. It's not like we want Sexton dribbling around until a shooter comes open and hitting him with a pass every time down the floor. Ideally three or four players touch the ball before every shot.

The Cavs had 24 assists last night, which is fine but we're looking for even more. It doesn't matter who gets them.

Sexton is a scorer, but he is decently efficient too. His total shooting is around 55% good for 87th in the league, almost identical to Drummond. Right there with other guards like Fox, Luo Williams, and Murray. Basically as long as we construct the team right, Sexton has a value in the league.

Back in the beginning of the year, we were winning games when Love and TT were playing strong. Now we have have Nance and Porter and Sexton playing pretty well. We could actually start WINNING some games. We have to be careful... :friendly wink:
No we don't ...the Cavs will lose simply because the teams in the playoff hunt are going to be on their game and unless key players are out, they have been noticing the cavs and they won't take them lightly.
We have some holes that will get exploited .
So don't worry..I typed as I looked away..hoping to believe what I said.

I can hear opposing coaches before the game saying, "Now we can't overlook these guys, they're playing better with the new coach and they just beat Miami and Philly...."
