Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #62 | Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics | March 4th, 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cavs need to draft a wing....For whatever reason, alot of mock drafts got us drafting another guard...

Can't be unhappy with the fight and effort tonight, fatigue and a short roster made that late loss close to inevitable, but some great signs. Sexton was excellent all night, picking his moments.
Pretty entertaining game but it doesn't mean much with both teams really depleted of key players. Yep, Cedi had a very bad game going 3-for-14 and Delly missed all five of his 3-point shots, none of which were contested. The two of them combined to go 3-for-22.

Boston was missing three starters so we were able to make a game of it even without Dre, TT, and Garland. Love, Nance, and Sexton had great games. Sexton blew away his career high as he pumped in 41 points in 45 minutes and even added 6 assists. Love was 26/14 and Nance was 19/15/4 with 4 steals. Nance just keeps getting better.

Unfortunately, the Celtics had Jayson Tatum, who scored 30. He and Ojeleye combined to go 10-for-18 on 3's while the rest of the Celtics were 1-for-12. Ojeleye, a former 2nd round pick in his third season, is averaging 2.8 ppg this year in 14 minutes. He had 22 points tonight in 30 minutes going 8-for-11 from the field. He really hurt us off the bench.

Kevin Porter Jr got shoved into a teammate and banged his head. He had to leave after only 10 minutes so the Cavs were even more short-handed and had to use their G-League guy, Dean Wade, who had 2 points in 16 minutes. We probably would have won this one if Porter hadn't taken that shot to the head.

A gutty effort by the Cavs but the poor shooting by Delly and Cedi plus the injury to KPJ cost them a win. At least they have two days off to rest up and hopefully get Thompson, Garland, and Drummond back, or at least one or two of them. Hope Porter isn't out long.

Love is 11-for-21 on 3's the last two games. He's so locked in he's putting them up from five feet behind the line if he's open.

I am thinking the Wing us the key, but that's not who you draft.. I am thinking the idea is to build the pieces needed except for the wing then go get the fully developed version in FA.. without a good wing, your a lottery team, so you build assets while developing talent, that wing, like a Leonard, or Butler, or George, or Durant, or of course LeBron, puts you over the top.. Milwaukee is building around their home grown guy, but 1) they got lucky in the draft and 2) Thier runway is short if they miss this year.

Just my opinion though. I would be happy to eat my words if we found Giannis 2.0 in this draft..

Garland
Drummond
TT
Exum
McKinnie

All out for the game.

KPJ ruled out after a collision in the second quarter.

Just what exactly did you want him to do?

I know players were out.
But the issue I have is this: We are shorthanded, and we are a team that is out of the playoffs picture, who should not try to seek out wins playing players extended minutes,, but rather look for growth. And we keep signing players to 10 day contracts, and we call up our two way contracts for nothing just to have them on the bench.
I'd like to see us play those two way/10 day guys to see what we have in them, and I'd like to see JBB play our main guys much less.
I love how the team has played under him compared to JB, but in that particular area he really needs to chill. I understand that he is fighting for his coaching life (in his mind), but I just don't think that this is the way to go about it at all since the owner and the manager probably don't think this is wise as well.

That is not the past history of the Cleveland Cavaliers. They let two way guys and g leaguers rot. So it’s not the head coach calling the shots. Upper management or very likely the 30 million dollar man.

Celtics certainly got several phantom foul calls in their favor.

Foolish to have Sexton play so many minutes. Even at his age and level of fitness you are endangering
the health of arguably the Cavs most valuable asset. If the head coach doesn't want to
play the guys on the bench, bring on some other players that can go for at least a handful
of minutes. How can anyone expect Sexton or any other player to perform at his highest
level at crunch time after all those minutes? Fatigue might not slow the motor, but
there is an inevitable small loss of execution that leads to missed shots and not the
best judgement.

And can we please find someone to start in lieu of Osman. I'm not basing my opinion
just on this game. Cedi has too many nights when he is just not a factor. I don't
care about any stats , he doesn't pass the eye test. His role should be a 15-20 minute
guy off the bench.

Cavs competed their asses off and deserved a better fate for this game.
