Game Thread 2019-20 Season Game #9 | Cleveland Cavaliers @ New York Knicks | Nov 10th, 2019

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If the playoffs started today we in there

I was just going to say that. After 9 games and we are in the playoff race.

I dont think we make it, but we will need to get really lucky in the lottery to get a top 5 pick again, this team is just to well coached.

Maybe if they trade Love and Tristan for picks or young players, but this team is fun to watch.

yeah I noticed that. I feel like it is because he plays with the second unit...which means he plays most of his minutes with Clarkson, and we know how that goes.
he doesn't get any touches with clarkson is on the floor, and when he does get the ball, JB wants a reset. JB is just trying to teach him how to play the right way
I get a JR vibe from Porter

Team is getting it.. they played solid D until halfway through the third, then to close it out..

That said this was the Knicks, so let's stay calm..

I really like that Trier kid. They got a steal there..

Garland looks really smooth with the ball lately. Getting to where he needs to be on the floor under control. Starting to develop into a playmaker.

Say what you want about Sexton, but he has a force of will that you can't teach. Not too many guys have that kind of drive to compete.

Cannot wait to get rid of Clarkson. He comes in and the ball stops moving.
Also, love TTs new aggression but this taking his man off the dribble thing has got to stop.

I think he has operated at 100% the whole time in the NBA to keep up and it's coming back haunt him now. He might be 90-95% of what he use to be but he just didn't have that 5-10% to give up to the NBA level of athletes.

I think on the international stage that 5-10% didn't matter much which is why he looked fine.
Delly was poor at the world cup and a big reason Australia chocked against Spain

Went to the game - I really enjoy watching this team. I guess hearing (and seeing) that without Lebron the Cavs are nothing so much, it's nice to finally have a Lebron-less team playing the right way this year.

I've been a fan since 1997 and we haven't had that since Brevin Knight and Z and Kemp, etc made the playoffs. Even with Lebron, it never felt like they played flawless team basketball to maximize their abilities - aside from the 2016 and 2017 playoffs, and the 2009 regular season.

Just nice to watch a decent Cavs team with good coaching. Feels like something I've never seen before. It helps to have a very good player in Kevin Love, too.

Some guys here say they don't like Nance, but he's active - 9 pts, 9 rebs, 3 steals. He was the only plus guy on the bench.
Yeah, he did a nice job anticipating lobs and stealing them. Love the way he ran the break and finished off that pass from Delly. If he could just develop a baby hook like TT he'd be a pretty decent big.

The Cavs now have their first winning streak of the season. Great job on defense holding the Knicks to 87 points, 13 below their average. Two nights ago they held the Wizards to 15 points below their average. Bickerstaff is doing an excellent job. Longabardi was awful.

The Cavs got to the line and knocked 'em down, going 28-for-31, with two misses coming after the game was decided. The Wizards made 16 free throws, so it was a 12-point Cavs advantage from the stripe. They played good defense while minimizing personal fouls.

The Knicks shot only 36% from the field and turned the ball over 21 times. Some of that involved poor shooting and ball handling by the Knicks along with a propensity to commit offensive fouls. These guys like to throw their weight around. But the Cavs forced a lot of missed shots and turnovers.

The Knicks starters were all between -12 and -28 as the Cavs starting lineup totally dominated when they were on the floor. The only negative was the 17 offensive rebounds by the Knicks, which is the second game in a row the Cavs allowed 17. Beilein is using some small lineups and it makes controlling the defensive glass more difficult.

Sexton had a career high 31 points and was a +26. Wow! TT had a quiet 9 points and 9 boards, but the Cavs were +33 in his 31 minutes on the floor - best on the team. Clarkson had a busy night with 17 points in 20 minutes along with 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Cedi, Porter, Clarkson and Love combined to shoot 2-for-16 on 3's, so the Cavs could have won by a lot more than 21 points with some halfway decent 3-point shooting. They missed a lot of wide open looks, but I noticed the 3-point shooting suffers a lot on the road. Hopefully they're knock some down against Philly on Tuesday.

Julius Randle is a load at 6'8", 250 pounds. He'll be 25 later this month. He had 20 points, 16 rebounds, and got TT into foul trouble. The Cavs did a great job on Marcus Morris, coming off a 29-point game in the win over Dallas, holding him to 9 points on 3-for-12 shooting.

Rookie R.J. Barrett, who the Cavs would have taken if he fell to them, had 9 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 3 turnovers. The consolation prize was Darius Garland who had 12 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and a steal. That's 27 points for Garland the last two games after a three-game stretch where he was 5-for-29. That Come-to-Jesus film session with Beilein has him on the right track. It's great to see he's coachable and can learn from watching film.

Longabardi really sucks. Got less than nothing from 2 guys who are playing great d in Sexton and Osman right now and Washington looks as hopeless as we did last year

His switching scheme robbed us of a chance to challenge the Warriors. Yes, even with Druant. Our offense was great. I was harping about it nonstop.

The problem IMO is that switching needs to be a surprise so the offensive player doesn't automatically know what to do and can't get the shot off. The Cavs switched every time so, it was obvious you could get Durant on Love or Kyrie almost any time you wanted to. Cavs did the same to Curry in 2016.

So, really it was just about hunting mismatches and Golden state is so good about making that extra pass off a cut when someone is exploiting a mismatch.

I watched he Wiz again, and they also don't know how to run the defense. It must be super complicated, and he can't get the players to read it right or it just puts you in bad positions constantly that take enormous effort to save the possession.

Cavs defense got worse every year he was a coordinator until they were the worst in NBA History. Longabardi has never had a year in his career where a defense improved. Wiz are currently at 28th in def rating. Cavs improved their def rating from 116.8 a game to 106.9 getting rid of him. They went from a firm 30th in defense to 17.

What does Longabardi do in interviews to defend his numbers which are terrible, worst in the NBA.
