Game Thread 2020-21 Season | Game #32 | Hawks @ Cavs | February 23, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What were the Hawks trying to do there? Why was the entire team rushing at Sexton 30 feet from the basket?
He usually force it and turn it over, nice pass i hope he continues passing sometimes.

Naturally my NBA league pass free preview ended with the OKC debacle instead of tonight. Sigh.

They can compete when they get contributions from the 4th through 10th men on the roster. It's about time they showed up.

Favorite part of the night was Trae Young pointing to his brain like he's smart because Lloyd Pierce called a timeout that bailed him out, only for him to come right back and rush a floater giving us time to win the game

Well played Trae

Wade should play a little going forward.

He really did show good lateral quickness on defense.

He'll get more confident and feel more comfortable taking some shots if he keeps getting time.

I think all within the last 2 min:
Sexton hits a big 3, then didn't force the issue to find a bank shot, then didn't force the last possession and made the simple pass. So that was nice to see.
yes... garland had the nice assist for the sexton 3, but garland also turned the ball over in a crucial possession. garland still has some cleaning up to do.

Trae Young didn't make the all-star game for a reason.

No player in history has relied more on bailout calls than him. HArden isn't even close.

Harden actually can kill you even w/o the FTs most nights.

He pulls up like he's Steph Curry and the fact is I'm not sure he's even one of the 15 best shooters in the league. Paul George would outshoot him most nights, for instance.

Sexton with 29 points on just 16 shots plus 5 assists (6 turnovers though). Very efficient game.
a couple of those turnovers are due to BS offensive foul calls. for me, he only had 1 valid offensive foul, and 1 stupid turnover on a drive.

JB is not as smart as you are.

It took a perfect storm of Reddish and Hunter being out, Collins going down at halftime, and the best 3-point shooting of the year to eke out a 1-point win at home over a below average team, but I'll take anything at this point.

The Cavs ended up 15-for-28 on 3's; not bad for the worst 3-point shooting team in the league. Kudos to Windler going 5-for-5. Maybe this game gives him the confidence to keep shooting them going forward.

Allen missed two dunks which almost cost us the game but fortunately Young missed that one-footed runner from the foul line and the Hawks were so focused on Sexton that Stevens was able to get the inside position and the winning dunk. Nice job by Collin realizing he was being doubled and giving up the ball at the right time.

Garland almost threw it away with a careless behind the back dribble that Huerter cleanly stole, giving the Hawks the ball and the lead with 30 seconds left. He had a tough night, missing 12 shots and committing 5 turnovers. Can't complain too much about 17 points and 8 assists, though.

The Cavs shot 52.6% and had 28 assists on 41 field goals so the offense was better. They haven't scored 112 points in over two weeks.

Wade was a team worst -14 in 21 minutes. I'm not sold on him as a starter. Hope Prince gets back soon.

Stevens played some good defense in addition to his 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a +12 in 16 minutes.

The Cavs had 10 blocked shots led by Allen with 4 and Okoro with 3. Yep, it's good to be playing the bottom half of the Eastern Conference again.

Man, it feels good to finally see a win. And when it's against Trae Young, whose foul-hunting has not been fun to watch, I just have to grin.
Sexton put out an efficient game on paper.
