The Cavs turn the calendar on a three-game winning streak with a rematch against the Rockets, who the Cavs beat in Cleveland five days ago. The Cavs dominated the second half 64-46 and crushed the Rockets on the boards 55-33. They blocked 10 shots and Jarrett Allen had a career game with a line of 26/18/4. It was the Rockets 9th straight loss.
It looks like the losing streak, and that loss to the Cavs, has taken all the stuffing out of the Rockets. Since losing to the Cavs they lost 122-111 to Toronto and last night shamefully mailed it in with a 133-84 beatdown against the 15-15 Memphis Grizzlies.
Getting beat by 49 at home against an average team is about as humiliating as it gets. I didn't see the game but clearly these guys are whipped. It was their 11th consecutive loss. It was also the largest margin of victory in Memphis franchise history.
The Rockets were down 26 points at halftime and it was garbage time the rest of the way. They shot a shocking 27.7% (worst in franchise history) and an inconceivable 4-for-45 on 3's.
The team's management should immediately refund the tickets for any Rockets fan who showed up to watch that joke of a performance and add an apology. If Andre Drummond took 45 3-pointers in a game he would make more than four of them. The Grizzlies bench scored 85 points. Is that a record? It has to be.
The Grizzlies bench outscored the Rockets' entire team 85-84. The Rockets' play-by-play announcer put out his trademark "Hammer, nail, coffin" comment at the start of the fourth quarter.
Now they take on the Cavs on the second night of a back-to-back. I don't know what their coach will say to them - probably challenge their manhood and their pride. Maybe they pull themselves together and try to show some effort and professionalism tonight. Or maybe they've already mailed in the season after management traded Harden for a bucketload of future draft picks. Obviously management gave up on the season; maybe the players don't see any reason to try.
To be honest I don't know what kind of effort the Rockets will put forth tonight after last night's debacle so I'm not going to go through the stats. They could roll over again or they could respond to last night's humiliation like professionals.
They have made one move since last week's loss to the Cavs, inserting center Justin Patton into the starting lineup. He's a 4th year player on his fourth team with a career average of 3.2 ppg, but at least he's a legitimate center at 6'11", 241. Last week their tallest starter was 6'6" and Allen destroyed them.
Their normal starting center, Christian Wood, is still out. Victor Oladipo missed last night's game with a quad injury but he's not on the injury report for tonight.
