The Cavs return home after a shocking and shameful loss to the last place and injury riddled Pistons for a rematch against the Bulls, who beat the Cavs 106-96 in Chicago four days ago. The Bulls were without their star player in Zach LaVine and will be without him again tonight. Since beating the Cavs the Bulls beat the Celtics in Boston two nights ago 102-96. They held Jayson Tatum to 3-for-17. Vucevic had 29 points and 9 rebounds after punishing the Cavs with 25 points on Saturday. In the absence of LaVine he's stepping up.

So is the Bulls' defense. They held the Celtics, who average over 112 ppg, to 96. The also held the Cavs, averaging just under 104, to 96.

The Bulls are a better road team than at home with a road record of 13-15. They are tied for 10th place, four games ahead of the Cavs with 15 to play. This is the final meeting between these teams. If the Cavs lose and fall five games behind Chicago with 14 to play they can forget about the play-in. It's a very, very long shot already since the Cavs are also four games behind the Wizards and 3.5 behind Toronto. They would have to finish ahead of all three of those teams to end up in 10th place. They have one game left against the Raptors and three against the Wizards. They would have to beat the Wizards all three games plus the Bulls tonight and the Raptors. Even then they would need a lot of help to make up three games on the Bulls with 14 to play. It's all but impossible.

What the Cavs need to do is forget about the W-L and focus on playing the right way, especially in the first and third quarters. In the last game the Bulls won the third quarter by 12 points as the Cavs came out lethargic and undisciplined after halftime. Monday the Bulls beat the Celtics by 14 points in the 3rd quarter in a six-point win. The Bulls basically won their last two games in the third quarter while being outscored in the other three quarters combined. The Cavs need to focus on getting off to good starts at the beginning of the game and the second half because they don't have the firepower to dig themselves out of holes. They are 4-31 when trailing after three quarters.

On Saturday the Cavs' bench was outscored 45-15 by the Bulls bench. That can't happen again. Kevin Love was 2-for-10 on 3's while Dean Wade did not play. That can't happen again. Love has made 3 of his last 21 three-point attempts. That has to change.

Bulls head coach Billy Donovan has a lot more confidence in his bench than Bickerstaff. The Bulls' bench played 96 minutes against the Cavs while the Cavs' reserves played 72. The Bulls' bench played 33% more minutes than the Cavs' bench and the Bulls still won. Delly was a -14 in 11 minutes.

Larry Nance Jr missed the last game for a personal matter. He's not on the injury report tonight. I don't know if he'll play.

I'm looking forward to seeing if Bickerstaff makes any adjustments, like reducing Love's minutes and giving Wade some action. I want to see how they will try and defend Vucevic better and if they send double teams against him at the risk of opening up uncontested threes.

I want to see how the Cavs respond to getting humiliated by the Pistons and being called out as "immature" by their coach and the cleveland.com beat writer, who also refered to their first quarter against Detroit as "gutless". I want to see how they come out and open the third quarter against a team that kicked butt in the third quarter its last two games, including against the Cavs.

Edit: Bickerstaff will miss tonight's game due to personal reasons.

It’s a conversation about our approach, and a maturity level that we’ve yet to reach. The thought that we wouldn’t come out tonight and play spirited basketball is disappointing. We say we stand for competing every single night. Right now, we need to make sure that we’re not just talking and our words lead to action. And right now, it isn’t. - Bickerstaff after Monday's loss to the Pistons

I want to see if the Cavs come out and play "spirited basketball" at home against a beatable team playing without it's leading scorer.

The Cavs will find a way to lose. Even all the players who we had some hope for have seemed to become a flash in the pan and for the most part no shows. It's fkin pitiful really.

J.B. Bickerstaff (personal) won't coach on Wednesday against the Bulls.

Assistant Coach Greg Buckner will serve as head coach in his place. Bickerstaff is expected to coach again on Friday against the Hornets.

If Bickerstaff is out, we might actually have a chance...

We need to start playing better. We had the injury excuse for most of the season. Now, nearly everyone is back and has been back long enough for the rust to be getting knocked off. Our next 6 are against below .500 teams before we pick up harder games in May. I'd sure like them to give me a little hope for next year by finishing respectably.

The Wizards are pushing for the play in and have the better roster. The Cavs are fantasizing over finding a non-guard answer in the draft. 2 different worlds

The Wizards have won 7 of 8 with the only loss coming to Phoenix. I doubt the Cavs win one of three against them.

As for the rest of the year, I'd like to see Hartenstein get more playing time, also Dean Wade. I'd like to see Allen try to score more, especially on short jumpers facing the bucket and when he's in the low post against smaller defenders. I'd also like to see Nance and Okoro try to expand their offensive games by doing more slashing to the rim.

I'd like to see more ball movement and more involvement by players besides Garland and Sexton. I don't want to see a middle pick-and-roll with Garland or Sexton shooting a floater 90% of the time while three players spot up.

I want to see the Cavs come out for the first and third quarters like the season depends on the next 12 minutes. Every game. I don't want to have Bickerstaff talking about how the game they just lost was a "learning experience" or that the players need to grow up or learn to compete.

I'd like to see the Cavs get more aggressive in shooting 3's. I want to see Love end the season healthy so he doesn't spend the next six months rehabbing.

Almost all of our players have either no talent, no heart, no brain, or some combination of those problems. It’s hard for me to imagine our team getting it together over the next month or so. Let’s just get a crap-ton of ping-pong balls and trade one of the vertically-challenged dudes.

You posted above that the Cavs had a chance because JBB is out, implying that coaching is the problem, then you say that almost all of our players have no heart, brains or courage yet you’re ready to get rid of Sexton and/or Garland.

You‘re living up to all the grouchy old man stereotypes that give all of us old farts a bad name.

You keep this up and I’m coming over and kicking your ass at outdoor shuffleboard.

Oh shit. They playing Fat Al at the Q?

Why can’t it be ALL OF THE ABOVE?

We could steal a win tonight, bc Bickerstaff is out.

But medium-term, one of the short guys has to go. I’ve liked Sexton, but a guy that little needs to be able to handle and pass the ball. Garland can handle and pass the ball, but he can’t defend, and he often can’t shoot. Okoro, Hartenstein, and Nance at least try. Everyone else is JAG. On to the draft.
