Game Thread | 2020-21 Season | Game $70 | Celtics @ Cavs | May 12, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I guess I think of Justifying a win as actively defending it, saying it was a good outcome. And I didn't see anyone do that nor do I feel like my posts were doing that. Maybe there's a context I'm missing.

I guess in addition to the 7-8 guys who were already out injured we could have just held out Love, Sexton, Allen, or Okoro with mystery pregame injuries and played with a 6 man rotation. TBH, the way Boston played and seemed unengaged tonight, I'm not 100% sure that would have guaranteed a loss.

To me, it was a bad win.

The game felt like the Twolves Detroit game that I had playing in the background last night. Whoever won that game was actually going to lose with what's at stake in this draft, barring some lottery luck.

To prove it, after Detroit lost the game without even showing up, they extended their coach for more years :chuckle:

We really need some lottery luck now. And we'll need even more if we face a shell of a Brooklyn team looking to rest up before the playoffs.

In theory, you want to commend the Cavs and their coaches for winning a game... I guess (shrugs)

I think your irritation was justified.

I'm more upset with Boston than the Cavs. I can't believe they aren't playing for Brad Stevens and feel we just so happened to catch a team on the second night of a back to back after their best player just decided to stop playing for his coach.

As the game kept going, I was sitting here shaking my head like... did Boston just decide to tank their way into the lottery by shelving everyone but Tatum and counting on losing out and losing the play-in game so they can take a stab at the lottery?

Because if they did, they're not only smarter than we are, but they have bigger balls and are more decisive than we are too :chuckle:
Perhaps it is true. They know other teams are super tanking.

Are half-measures really worth it when all is said and done? Maybe they should have sat Sexton. Load management.

The only thing worse than a 21 win season is a 22 win season that results in a non-optimal Draft spot.

Which is insane. That 22 wins could only be the 6th worst record in the NBA.

I think we all know how the Lotto will play out. Dude will reveal the Cavs logo, the dude there for the Cavs will cross his arms and look miserable. 8th pick.

Time to embrace the Fratello treadmill.

I agree completely that its bad game. I just thought some of the reaction was overstating the severity and magnitude of it.

And am 100% on board with any frustration people felt watching the game closeout or with the outcome.

And I don't really have much compliments for the Cavs for the outcome(a few individual things I liked), I just didn't think there was anything that happened specific to tonight to crucify or condemn them about.

I think it sucks that they won, though. If that wasn't clear throughout my postings tonight, that's on me.

Nope, I believe we're Lotto Jamming into the top4 this year. And I won't not believe it until I see it happen. A new sparkly era of post LeBron greatness will commence and there will be playoffs and ice cream for everybody.

All I ask is that we DONT send a current player. They always look confused and disappointed on draft lottery night. I suppose because if they win the lottery, one of their teammates is about to be replaced. Pretty sure this is the night the Celtics jumped up to #3 with one of the Nets picks. A year later, Isiah not only didn't get paid, but half the team got traded

Stings even more that you chose THIS particular player representing THIS particular team :chuckle:

I agree though, it seems like when players go, and I assume its because of the "you are the greatest" centric life they lead once people realize they could make it to the NBA, that those players in the Secaucus sound studio just assume that their very presence means its a guaranteed jump into the top3(now 4)

(smacks him on the ass)

We're on to the last two games. I don't blame you or Rich. I actually blame @chrisrich91 for this one.

Now, if they win another game, I'm old school negative repping you and editing your posts and giving the reason "justify this, Celtic lover" for a month.

Deal?

Here's a better deal:

Cavs move(or stay) up into the top 4: $25 donation for the new ownership group and the mod lounge named after my grandmother

Cavs land outside the top4 on lotto night: $75 donation and you can change my Name and/or avatar for a week to whatever you want

I can't take that.

Probably 10 minutes ago, I decided we were going to win the whole damn lottery with the 7th worst record and we would draft Evan Mobley.

Not joking. Happened before my Isaiah draft lottery joke.

I got a feeling...

Ok fine, I guess I'll just have to burn my money on women and booze instead.

Mobley would be SWEET. I'm not sure he's got the highest ceiling out of all of them(just in the way the current NBA is) but I think he's the most surefire, won't bust out of this draft and super skilled.

History says it's highly, highly unlikely that they'll all pan out as stars but I actually like all of the consensus top6(in no particular order: Mobley/Barnes/Kuminga/Cade/Suggs/Green)

You can't ask players like Sexton and Oloro not to compete. It's just not how they are wired.. And when Love got fired up, it brings the team up a level..

I am all for a better lottery, but sometime these guys are going to win because it feels better than constant losing..

What sucks about a win like this is reading people justify it.

Right, because having the second worse team the last two years worked perfectly for us.

Some of yall shouldn't be fans because yall are mad when the team losses and when they win.

This team has two of the hardest workers in the league yet yall asking them to give up on the season just to get the top pick..I guess, some of yall forgot that New Orleans had a very long shot getting the #1 pick two years ago and end up getting it..

The Celtics lost to Miami the night before 129-121. Kemba Walker, 30-year-old point guard, played 39 minutes and scored 36 points. The Celtics really tried to win that game. They scored 42 in the fourth quarter.

After losing it was clear they had no chance of getting to 6th place and avoiding the play-in and they have no chance of finishing 11th and missing it. So now it's a matter of resting their stars over the last couple of games and being ready for the play-in. At least that's how it looks to me.

Last night's game was meaningless to both teams. If anything it meant more to the Cavs - it was their final home game and they didn't want to finish the season on a 14-game losing streak. Kevin Love talked about how much he wanted to win this game. The Celtics needed to give Walker some rest because with Brown out they're going to need him even more if they want to survive the play-in and get to the first round.

As for the lottery, I think the team with the fifth-worst record got the #1 pick each of the last two seasons. The way they set up the odds it's a total crapshoot.

I would never ask my top players to go out there and not compete! That’s why you use the DNP-CD option

we drafted anthony bennett and andrew wiggins with the #1 picks. so getting #1 is not surefire thing anyway. Of course they were both Canadian so you would think the Cavs have learned not to pick a Canadian with the #1 pick at least.
