Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game #10 | Cavs @ Raptors | Nov. 5, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Fun game. Never lead until the last 5 sec lol. I liked Sexton competed in d even with a bad game.

Mobley got another dose of physicality. Grab those boards, son.

Barnes looks great. I really wanted him. Good to see Mobley was able to compete with him. Barnes is huge and strong already. Wow. He's gonna be tough.

The same way that Mobley and Barnes are separating themselves from the Rookie pack, @MirORich and @Sir'Dom Pointer are separating themselves from the rest of us in these game threads.

They're giving us play by play, color and even squared up last game and went after each other for a full 48 minutes. I'm sitting in a booth at a restaurant at Times Square with the option to either watch a ESPN gamecast or keep refreshing RCF gamethread like a madman, and these two guys carried me through that like our very own AC and John Michael.

Looking forward to this playing out this season and seeing who runs away with in-game thread MVP.

Loved the Cavs resilience tonight - they could've gone away a number of times but just kept charging back. There's a lot of JB bashing in the game threads but the team is playing hard for him so far and the results have been fun to watch all season, especially the last few games shorthanded. The Cavs have played the most games of any team this season and the most road games, all against strong opponents, and have come out of this stretch 6-4 so far. I don't know if JB is the guy long term, but he has us playing better basketball than any other non-Lebron team in the past 20 or so years.

Loved seeing Garland take over a bit in the 4th. He's been a little too passive at times early in the season, but tonight he stepped up big in the 4th quarter. Allen racked up another nice double double on high percentage shooting, while Mobley had another solid game. The team needs to rebound a little better. Hopefully that comes as they get used to playing together. The bigs do a great job of helping in the paint which means the rotating guys need to get a body on someone. Toronto was a tricky matchup in that aspect as they are long and athletic and crash the offensive glass.

Sexton struggled with his shot but I thought he played really good D for much of the game. I didn't mind JB giving him the ball in the final 30 seconds, but would've liked to have seen more action developing with at least a screen coming sooner. Sexton and Garland both won huge jump balls down the stretch. Wade made some nice plays off the bench and even Stevens held his own in some fairly crucial minutes midway through the 4th to give Mobley a breather.

Overall another great team win for the Cavs. It'll be interesting to see how they do when the schedule lightens up and we expect them to take it to teams like Detroit or Orlando, but they've certainly answered the bell every time so far this season.

bs it is easy to talk at someone when they aint listening right smh he is a sponge of information not hardheaded that is shooting terrible thanks to the ignored shoulder injury he refuses to let stop him so in that respect aka never quit yep he is bullheaded. some of you are fucking dense on here. enjoy the win and I guess enjoy Sexton wasn't the reason why because he usually was the only reason the Cavs ever had a chance last season.
Ok DAD, thanks for telling me what to see and what to think.

My final thoughts

a.) for as “big” as we are downlow we give up a shit ton of offensive rebounds

b.) I’ve dogged Cedi for years but I’m proud of him. He’s doing a great job coming off the bench and knocking down 3’s for us

c.) Sexton, smh. What a disastrous game. We were better every time he subbed out. And even if JB wanted to put him in the game at the end, which is silly based off his performance, giving him the ball on an iso was even worse. Almost blew our chance at winning but luckily Sexton won the tip

d.) Sexton needs traded. We need wing help and Garland is clearly THE DUDE for the future in our backcourt

Raptors are the best OReb% team in the league. We're #6.

It's Saturday morning and I still can't believe we beat the Raptors in Toronto with Love, Markkanen, and Okoro out, Sexton going 4-for-17, and allowing 19 offensive rebounds while committing 18 turnovers. I thought we would have to play a near perfect game to have a shot, but it was far from perfect but they found a way to win.

“This is a great environment. Their fan base is awesome. They’re into the game. To ice it at the free throw line with the fans going crazy, that’s maturation, that’s growth,” Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. “To be down as big as we were in this environment and not fold it in and get ready for New York is big. It speaks to our guys, their commitment to one another, their commitment to the competition. And I couldn’t be more proud of the fight and the scrap that showed tonight to go out and get it done in a tough place against a good team.”

Yeah, we definitely got us a squad.

That being said, we won't beat this team next time if Siakam is back and we won't beat the Clippers again if Kawhi Leonard is back. We're catching some of these teams without their best players but I'll take it. Now we just need Julius Randle to slip in the shower today and jam his thumb or something.

Cedi has blossomed coming off the bench as the sharpshooter instead of being miscast earlier as a Gordon Heyward 2.0 wing that some projected. He has been phenomenal in this role. Would love to see Sexton in this role as well but doubt that he would be happy coming off the bench. Okoros defense and size is desperatly needed next to Garland.

Detroit and Houston have to be kicking themselves watching Mobley and Barnes so far. Cunningham and Green are going to be great players some day but Barnes and Noble ,,,err Mobley have skillsets that elevate their teams to a different level the way Lebron, Giannis , and the other hybrid wing stretch 4 talents in the game have done. These two will have some great battles down the road. Two remarkable talents. Mobley with the length , Barnes with the bulk.

Would love to be able to pry Cam Reddish away from Atlanta.

BTW 55 pages on a game thread! Wow!

I completely agree. A couple of weeks ago I predicted the Cavs would make the playoffs. I also said we needed to keep Osman on the bench. I'm feeling good about my first prediction but I withdraw the second one! Osman has been shooting very well and he plays with energy. As long as he doesn't try to do too much, he is an asset.

I think we really need Sexton, even if as a sixth man. He does things no one else on the team can do. Moreover, he is relentless in his work ethic and he is only going to get better. I also note that as we are winning he is playing more selfless ball. I wish we could sign him to a contract like Jarrett Allen's (five years, $100 million).

I would like a starting lineup with Garland and Okoro in the backcourt. It would be a better defensive unit and would still have plenty of scorers in Garland, Mar', Allen, and Mobley. A second unit backcourt with Rubio, Sexton, and Osman/Windler would also be able to score, though it's defense would be a bit lacking.

Let’s not go too crazy. Leonard won’t play for the Clippers at all, most likely, this year. And if we can beat the Raptors in Toronto without 3 of our top 8 guys, I’m sure a healthy Cavs team could beat Toronto with Siakam, especially in Cleveland.

Was coming in to say this. Raptors fans are also worried about Siakam coming back because it's going to take away from both Barnes and OG. That Raptors team even without Siakam (and Barnes) beat the Knicks and Wizards, who are playing pretty well. And as you said, we've been without 3 key players including a starter and our 6th man (though Cedi is making a case for 6th man over Okoro). I hope JBB uses our depth instead of focusing on that 7-8 man thing he's been saying. As far as I'm concerned, Cedi, Okoro, Love, Windler and possibly Wade/Stevens have earned time off the bench.

Yeah I wouldn’t assume anything about who our team can’t beat. On any given night we will compete, and if the other team doesn’t bring effort they will get beat.
